From 'Jolene' to 'Vaccine,' singer Dolly Parton gets a 'dose of her own medicine.'

In a video and picture shared this Tuesday on social media, the 75-year-old country music icon <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/music/dolly-parton-songs-book-late-show" target="_blank">Dolly Parton</a> shares herself receiving her first dose of a <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/return-of-the-roaring-20s-for-fashion" target="_blank">COVID-19</a> vaccine that she helped fund with a previous $1 million donation toward vaccine research and development at Nashville&#39;s Vanderbilt University <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/wellness/tongue-diagnosis-wellness-chinese-medicine-health" target="_blank">medical</a> center, where, as the singer wrote on Twitter, she&nbsp;got &quot;a dose of her own medicine.&quot; That money later went into researching and formulating the Moderna vaccine, which was approved for use in the U.S. in December and in the UK in January.

Despite being early vaccine-eligible due to her mature age, <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/pop-culture/is-dolly-parton-a-feminist" target="_blank">Parton</a> waited only until now&nbsp;to get her shot to give others more in need a chance at their doses first.&nbsp;&quot;I just want to say to all of you cowards out there: Don&#39;t be such a chicken squat, get out there and get your shot,&quot; the 50-time <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/music/grammy-nominated-artists-to-know-2021" target="_blank">Grammy</a> nominated artist urged in her video. For the occasion, Parton&nbsp;also gave an update to the lyrics of her 1973 famous hit &quot;Jolene,&quot;&nbsp;replacing the word with &quot;vaccine&quot;&nbsp;at every appropriate moment:&nbsp;&quot;Vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, vaccine / I&#39;m begging of you, please, don&#39;t hesitate / Vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, vaccine / &#39;Cause once you&#39;re dead, then that&#39;s a bit too late.&quot;

The <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/pop-culture/reasons-to-love-dolly-parton-music-philanthropy-fashion" target="_blank">country</a> singer&#39;s&nbsp;longtime friend Dr. Naji Abumrad, who she mentioned in her tweet announcing her copious donation last year, easily administered Parton the&nbsp;injection thanks to her cut-out <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/wedding-guest-dresses-shopping" target="_blank">dress</a> that left her upper arm exposed. &quot;That didn&#39;t hurt! Just stung a little bit, but that was from the <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/wellness/best-non-alcoholic-drinks-dry-january-2021" target="_blank">alcohol</a> pad, I think,&quot; Parton&nbsp;commented after receiving her first shot.&nbsp;

Parton told the <a href="https://apnews.com/article/dolly-parton-super-bowl-covid-19-vaccine-c21dc53f15c38339d2d3f74150eba095" target="_blank">Associated Press</a> last month that&nbsp;she would document the process of getting the vaccine to help demonstrate its safety.&nbsp;&quot;When I get it, I&#39;ll probably do it on camera so people will know and I&#39;ll tell them the truth, if I have symptoms and all that,&quot; she stated in the interview. &quot;Hopefully it&#39;ll encourage people.&quot;
