Though she is reaching new heights of fame with the release of her new album, The Secret of Us, Gracie Abrams has been quietly working towards the title of "popstar" for years. After the release of her debut EP minor in 2020, she has been consistently releasing music and steadily growing her fanbase while touring alongside Taylor Swift on The Eras Tour.

At just 24 years old, she is known for her devastatingly honest ballads and catchy bedroom pop hits. With an endlessly versatile discography, Abrams' music is the perfect soundtrack for a road trip with your best friends, or a solitary night alone at home. Although her music often sounds so intimate that it feels like you've just discovered the next great underground artist, The Secret of Us has been topping charts worldwide after debuting at number two on the Billboard 200 chart in the U.S. and gaining her first ever number one album in the U.K.

In a 2020 interview with L'OFFICIEL, Abrams talked about her belief in being honest in music. “I can't separate my music from my opinions,” she said. "It reflects my way of thinking. You shouldn't be afraid to talk about what you believe in. I find that very important."

Abrams also talked about her musical inspirations in the same interview, citing Joni Mitchell as particularly influential on her sound. "As I grew older, I began to listen to her words carefully and to feel that she was more emotional than other artists. I then understood that music could be an incredible outlet and it made me want to create music myself." As a fan, Abrams has always gravitated towards music that is vulnerable and intimate, and this source of inspiration is evident in her own music as well.

As she soars through the charts and continues to draw attention amid dating rumors and unforgettable fashion moments, get to know Gracie Abrams a little better as the person behind your favorite breakup songs with these fun facts.

Gracie Abrams is good friends with Taylor Swift.

After being a Swiftie for years, Abrams had the opportunity to tour with Taylor Swift on The Eras Tour last year. The pair had spent time together at parties beforehand, but touring together cemented them as close friends in the public eye. Swift has always spoken highly of Abrams. In an interview with Rolling Stone, she said, "Gracie's writing mixes fragility with introspection in a way that I really relate to...It makes me feel like maybe she and I started writing songs for the same reason, just to try to make sense of how we feel."

While touring together, Swift shared the stage with Abrams to perform her hit song "I Miss You, I'm Sorry" together during The Eras Tour in Cincinnati. Most recently, the pair collaborated on the song "Us" from Abram's new album. During The Eras Tour in London, they performed the song together for the first time.

It's no secret that Abram's parents are accomplished Star Wars director J.J. Abrams and producer Katie McGrath. Many people have been quick to include her in the lists of celebrity "nepotism babies," but Abrams has been just as quick to acknowledge how lucky she is and to explain that her parents are kept far away from her music career.

In an interview with iHeart Radio, Abrams said, "There’s a privilege in having even grown up around the knowledge of what the entertainment world looks like at all...[but] I definitely kept them so far out of it. Songwriting, for me, was always just a personal outlet to deal with my experiences without having to talk to anyone, especially my parents for many years."

She briefly went to college in NYC.

Though she didn't end up graduating, Abrams attended Barnard College in New York City for her freshman year to study international relations. She ultimately decided to pause her studies in order to pursue her music career full-time, but she has always spoken highly of the experience and enjoyed living in NYC.

Gracie Abrams is an avid poetry reader.

It makes sense that a songwriter like Abrams would enjoy reading poetry; she can often be found posting about her newest favorite poems on Instagram for her fans and friends to see. She cites Mary Oliver as one of her favorite poets of all time, and fans have often gifted her books of poetry. In her new song "Us" with Taylor Swift, she referenced poet Robert Bly with the lyric, "Robert Bly on my nightstand, gifts from you, how ironic."

She opened for Olivia Rodrigo on tour.

Before she was playing to stadium-sized audiences with Taylor Swift, Abrams joined her friend Olivia Rodrigo on the Sour tour, which was Rodrigo's first-ever headlining tour. The pair were close friends during the tour and have continued to support each others' careers ever since. On Abrams' last night with the Sour tour, Rodrigo told her fans to dress up in their best prom attire to throw a party in honor of Abrams' final performance of the tour.

She has a dog named Weenie.

Abrams' adorable dog, Weenie, is often featured on her Instagram grid. She adopted him from The Labelle Foundation, an animal rescue in Los Angeles.

She often works with producer Aaron Dessner.

Similarly to Swift, Abrams has made a lot of music alongside the producer and musician Aaron Dessner. Dessner has worked with Swift on all of her albums since folklore, and he was the main producer on Abrams' debut album Good Riddance, and returned to work with her on The Secret of Us. The pair often work together at Long Pond Studio, Dessner's music studio in New York. Over years of collaboration, the two have grown close and have become good friends.

She's already been nominated for a Grammy.

Even though she is still being discovered by new fans every day, Abrams has made significant strides to become a respected artist in the music industry. In 2024, she was nominated for her first Grammy in the Best New Artist category alongside artists like Ice Spice and Noah Kahan. The award ultimately went to Victoria Monét, but the experience of being nominated is a huge honor regardless.
