Ice Spice will make her acting debut in visionary director Spike Lee's newest film, an interpretation of Akira Kurosawa's crime thriller film, High and Low.

The rapper seemingly manifested her film debut, when she revealed just last year that she "loves movies" and as a teenager, begged her mother to let her attend a performing arts school to pursue film, but much to her dismay, the idea was shot down. "I was mad salty about that for years," the rapper said to Teen Vogue. "I was like, I could have been the biggest director out of New York." While the 23-year-old isn't taking on a directorial role just yet, her role in High and Low marks a step in the right direction, especially given that the project is spearheaded by the biggest director in New York, Spike Lee.

Details about the rapper's role in the movie have been kept under wraps so far, but it has been revealed that she will appear alongside Denzel Washington, who has taken on a starring role.

High and Low marks the fifth collaboration that Washington and Lee have embarked on, with past projects including Mo' Better Blues, Malcolm X, He Got Game, and Inside Man

Lee's imagining of the iconic Japanese film will be developed by Apple Original Films and A24. Following the completion of the film, A24 will oversee a domestic theatrical release before High and Low finds a permanent home on AppleTV+, where it will be available for global streaming.

On April 10, Apple Original Films tweeted a photo of Washington and Lee's reunion, signaling the beginning of the film's production.

Akira Kurosawa's original 1963 film follows a wealthy executive-level businessman who is targeted by a criminal after tensions arise within the company due to disagreements over the future of the business. Chaos ensues as the protagonist's child is kidnapped by his pursuer, and he eventually falls into debt after paying a hefty ransom to ensure his young son's safety. The original film—which has become a classic, esteemed crime thriller—is chaotic, gripping, and tense, qualities which are highly likely to carry over to Lee's version of the story with a fresh, new twist.

Although this project marks the rapper's first foray into the film world, given her track record and swift rise to fame after the release of several viral tracks—"Munch" and "In Ha Mood" included—Ice Spice's role in High and Low is sure to launch the Gen Z icon into a whole new level of stardom.
