The first responder who rescued Princess Diana is opening up about the princess's final words before her death.

Diana and her boyfriend Dodi Fayed were being followed by a group of paparazzi in Paris when the driver of the car lost control resulting in a fatal accident in the tunnel at the Ponte de l'Alma. Sergeant Xavier Gourmelon was on duty at dawn on August 31, 1997. On that day, he did not know that Princess Diana was the one involved in the accident. In testimony to the newspaper <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9710301/Oh-God-whats-happened-fire-chief-heard-Princess-Dianas-words.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Daily Mail</a>, Gourmelon said he knew it was something serious when he arrived at the scene which was surrounded by many doctors.
The team first removed Fayed and then tried to remove Diana. He said: &ldquo;After [Fayed] was removed, I was left with the passenger. She spoke in English and asked 'My God, what happened?' I understood that, so I tried to calm her down. I held her hand.&rdquo; According to Gourmelon, those were her last words. She didn't say anything else until she went to the hospital.
Xavier said she was apparently fine, with steady breathing and a strong pulse, with only an exposed shoulder wound but no other visible bruises. However, after arriving at Piti&eacute;-Salp&ecirc;tri&egrave;re University Hospital, she succumbed to internal injuries.
