The former husband and wife who designed Princess Diana's wedding dress are embroiled in a legal battle over copyright infringement.

In 1981,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/princess-diana-style" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Princess Diana</a> and <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/politics-culture/prince-charles-camilla-parker-bowels-royals-scandal-diana" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Prince Charles</a>' <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/pop%20culture/princess-diana-wedding-dress-tiara-see-all-the-photos" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wedding day</a> was a history-making event. Today, almost 40 years later, Lady Di's&nbsp;<a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/10-facts-you-didnt-know-about-princess-diana's-wedding-dress" target="_blank" rel="noopener">dress</a> for the big day is back in the news as it has become the subject of a legal fight. The gown, an iconic piece in royal fashion history, was created by ex-designer couple Elizabeth and David Emanuel, who are now in the middle of a copyright lawsuit.
According to the <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-9157581/Former-couple-created-Princess-Dianas-wedding-dress-war-plan-sell-sketch.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Daily Mail</a>, David is filing a lawsuit against Elizabeth after she placed sketches of several pieces created for Lady Di up for auction, among them a drawing of the much-loved wedding dress. According to David, this infringes on his copyright as the sketches were created jointly.

The lawsuit further claims that Elizabeth made copies of their original sketches, and that the auction took place without David's consent, making the entire sale of these sketches against an agreement made between the two during their divorce to refrain from using the name "Emanuel" in any of their future business ventures. As a result of this alleged breach, David has asked the court that the sketches be destroyed.
