Looking Back On Priscilla Presley and the King of Rock 'n' Roll
In honor of the release of the new Priscilla biopic, join L'OFFICIEL in reminiscing on her young romance with Elvis.
While Priscilla Presley went on to become a successful actress and businesswoman, her name is inextricably linked with rock 'n' roll history and its leading man, Elvis.
When Priscilla Beaulieu was 14 years old, she met the already-famous Elvis Presley who was serving as a GI in Germany, where her stepfather was stationed. The rockstar, 10 years her senior, quickly became enamored with Priscilla and they began what would become a seven-year-long courtship. Their public relationship caused Priscilla to quickly become accustomed to Elvis' fame, and her family had reservations about allowing her to move to Graceland, the rockstar's estate in Memphis, Tennessee. Although their relationship was marred by rumors of Elvis' affairs in Hollywood, the couple finally wed in 1967, when Priscilla was 22. Just a year later, they welcomed their only daughter, Lisa Marie Presley. By 1972, however, their relationship was too rocky for repair, and the couple divorced that year.
Afterward, Priscilla opened a boutique in Los Angeles called Bis and Beau, after her business partner, Olivia Bis, and her own maiden name, Beaulieu. It gained a famous following, in part from Elvis' support, as well as Cher, Tina Turner, and Barbra Streisand. Priscilla's experience as a business owner would then help her manage Elvis' estate after his untimely death in 1977.
Today, she remains a part of Elvis' pop culture legacy and still makes visits to Graceland. Additionally, in June, a biopic about Elvis, Elvis (2022), directed by Baz Luhrmann, hit the theaters, and Priscilla was an integral role in the project's rollout. At the 2022 Met Gala, she walked the red carpet with the film's stars Austin Butler and Olivia DeJonge.
In honor of the newly released Priscilla film hitting theatres, take a look at her young days spent with Elvis, because her story is only beginning.
