Rita Moreno Says She Dated Elvis Presley for Revenge
After catching her boyfriend Marlon Brando with another woman, Rita Moreno used the King of Rock and Roll to make him jealous.
Rita Moreno is a true icon of the film industry. But beyond his professional life, her affairs made headlines for decades throughout his career. And now, aged 89, she opened up about an amusing story of how she found a way to make and get revenge on her then-boyfriend Marlon Brando after he cheated.
The West Side Story star revealed that after eight years together, she discovered he was having an affair with another woman. In an interview on The View, Moreno said, “I found lingerie at his house and of course I was heartbroken, and I went home in tears. I was actually naive, and I was angry too, just furious. The next day the phone rang and I heard 'Miss Moreno?' I said, 'Uh, yeah?' 'This is Colonel Parker, my client is Elvis Presley, and Elvis saw you at the 20th Century Fox party and liked what he saw.'"
She added that the manager insisted that Presley would very much like to meet her in person. At the time Moreno was reluctant, but remembering the betrayal, ended up accepting the invitation. The actress said that she went out on dates with the singer several times and that she found him "sweet but boring."
“He was cute, but he was a country boy. Anyway, when [Brando] found out, it didn't take long. He started throwing chairs. He was so angry. It was wonderful," Moreno said, pretending not to mind his tantrum.
