72-Year-Old Stevie Nicks Joins TikTok
Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks joined Tiktok yesterday, posting a single video that quickly went viral. The singer’s voice has dominated the app since the end of September, when TikTok user Nathan Apodaca, aka @420doggface208, shared a now-viral video of himself bopping out to Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams” while drinking Ocean Spray juice on a skateboard after his car broke down.
Inspired users created the “Dreams” Challenge, recreating the video with their own skateboards, listening to the 1977 classic song. By mid-October, “Dreams” had officially made it to number 11 on the Rolling Stone chart. The video also went viral on Instagram and Twitter, where Fleetwood’s Mac’s official Twitter account retweeted the video with the comment “We love this!” Ocean Spray also gave Apodaca a token of appreciation, gifting him a red pickup truck full of Cran-Rasperry juice.
It seems that the buzz surrounding the TikTok was enough to convince Nicks, a self-identified “technophobe,” to join the popular video app to share her own take on the “Dreams” challenge. In her video, Nicks sings along to a record playing "Dreams" while tying up a pair of white roller skates and sitting next to a carton of Ocean Spray. “Afternoon vibe. Lace ‘em up!” Nicks captioned the video, tagging Apodaca. So far, Nicks’ video has 2.8 million likes and counting, and Apodaca’s has over 8.8 million.
Nicks’ bandmate and Fleetwood Mac co-founder Mick Fleetwood also joined TikTok to recreate the video. Fleetwood even went on a joint BBC broadcast with Apodaca where he praised the video for being “so joyous and fun.”
