Taylor Swift's 'Sparks Fly' Song is Not About Who Swifties Think it is

Many theories about Taylor Swift's "Sparks Fly" song have circulated, but it's now confirmed that it's definitely not about Jake Owen.

Jake Owen is setting the record straight. In a recent interview with People, the country singer confirms that Taylor Swift's "Sparks Fly" song is not about him. Though he has been centered as the subject of the song, Owen affirms that he's never minded.

“It’s a great song and the speculation has always been funny to me,” he said. “I’m sure Taylor probably laughs at it all too, but I’m happy to even have my name in the discussion around it.”

He continued, saying that Swift is "an amazing girl and an amazing artist" and that "it’s been incredible to see how she’s grown as a musician and what a global phenomenon she’s become."

Though Swift hasn't revealed much about which man is behind the song, Swifties have pulled together theories based on her lyrics and "easter eggs." According to People, "in the song’s liner notes, she wrote 'Portland, OR,' possibly hinting at the city she and Owen played in together 17 years ago." Additionally, per an old MySpace post that Swift posted on October 2006, she gave a detailed rundown on opening for Owen in a Portland bar, calling him "extremely cool" and "awesome," and that she's "had his album on repeat."

Swifties have been adamant about finding the men behind each Swift song, especially after the 12-time Grammy winner recently released her re-recorded version of Speak Now — her third album that was originally released in 2010.

From the Speak Now album, Swift's "from the vault" song "When Emma Falls In Love" has caused a major surge of speculation, with many Swiftie's believing it's about Emma Stone and her previous dating history with Andrew Garfield. Given Swift and Stone's long-standing friendship, especially considering they became closer at the same time Swift was originally making Speak Now, Swifties are sure that "When Emma Falls In Love" is an ode to friendship and the way her friend acts when she falls in love.
