Meet Miranda July, the Artist All Of Your Favorite Creatives Are Obsessed With

From the brilliant worlds created within the bounds of her films and novels to the enrapturing scopes of her visual art installations, Miranda July is the enigmatic, utterly engaging artist you need to keep on your radar. 

With a fascinatingly singular social media presence, a charming public persona, and a sincere love for her art, July has amassed thousands of followers and fans across the world, many of whom come for her work within a specific medium, but end up staying for the woman behind it all. 

Her most recent artistic endeavor—a novel that consists of an intimate exploration of a woman's life as she grapples with all of the changes that come with adulthood in your 40s and what it truly means to pursue art—has taken the literary world by storm, and has quickly risen among the ranks of the most acclaimed books of 2024. In a 2024 profile with The New Yorker, July revealed the preliminary notes she took while conceptualizing All Fours, sharing the eloquent, witty summary that perfectly sums up her own persona as an author and her equally unique approach to the novel: “A sort of Lord of the Rings story of marriage and motherhood and middle age.” 

Aside from her book tour for All Fours, Miranda July is keeping busy with the world of visual art. Spanning a collection of recent works, July currently has an exhibit on show at the Fondazione Prada Osservatorio in Milan. The "Miranda July: New Society" gallery exhibition features pieces ranging in scope from textile art to costuming to video installation, resulting in an engaging experience for all of the senses. 

Concurrently, the artist has a secondary exhibit at the Fondazione Prada Osservatorio, entitled "Miranda July: F.A.M.I.L.Y.," which features a video installation documenting performances and collaborations between July and seven different strangers in an intimate, surrealist expression of physical language.

Miranda July is also a familiar face at many of the highly-anticipated runway shows from leading luxury designers. From an appearance on the Gucci runway several years back to regular front-row spots at Miu Miu, July is well-known among fans and designers alike for her eccentric, yet effortlessly chic style.
