5 Reasons to Consider Becoming a Morning Person
The morning routines of successful people typically have one thing in common: an early wakeup time. Though setting an early alarm—and not hitting snooze—comes with the added advanage of more hours in the day, there are a host of other health and lifestyle benefits to waking up early.
If you don't consider yourself a morning person, here are 5 reasons to give early mornings a try.
You'll have more energy
While that first cup of coffee might give you the burst of energy you need to get going in the morning, the best way to ensure you can keep up your productivity throughout the day is to get enough quality sleep. Early risers tend to complete more REM cycles than night owls, making it easier to get to the gym or complete your to-do list.
You'll feel healthier
While we sleep, our bodies are busy regulating our hormones and charging up our immune system. If you don't get enough shut-eye, your hormones might go out of balance, resulting in issues with blood sugar, weight, fertility, and more. Your body also might not be as effective at fighting off infection. Waking up earlier in the day (and sleeping earlier as well) helps regulate your appetite and keeps your body in optimum shape.
You'll look better
While under-eye circles are having a moment, we prefer to look well-rested and fresh. This can be achieved through concealer and blush, or simply by prioritizing a healthy sleep schedule. Our skin repairs itself while we sleep, which is why you may notice appearing more radiant after getting a solid eight hours.
You'll improve your mental health
Studies show that those who get up early tend to have a more positive state of mind than those who stay up late and sleep in. Having the extra hour or two in the morning also gives you time to ease into the day via meditation, exercise, or other healthy habits. Over time, these habits accumulate and will have positive effects on stress and anxiety.
You'll feel more rested
Once it gets dark, our bodies are designed to secrete melotonin, the sleep-inducing hormone. Sticking to your biological clock as closely as you can might make it so that you don't even need an alarm in the morning, and waking up naturally allows your body to fully complete all needed sleep cycles, so you don't wake up feeling exhausted.
