Art Basel Miami Beach is here, and the worlds of art and celebrity are all abuzz. From December 6 to 8, the Miami Beach Convention Center will transform into a mecca for modern and contemporary art, drawing collectors, connoisseurs, and culture enthusiasts from across the globe. Known for its vibrant mix of galleries and cutting-edge installations, the fair is as much about art as it is about the experience.

While the glitzy parties and events are a highlight of Art Basel, the true stars are the artists who push boundaries and redefine creativity. This year’s lineup features an eclectic mix of emerging and established talent. Danielle Mckinney

Painter Danielle Mckinney often depicts women doing what would otherwise be seen as mundane and brings them to life. Her cinematic portraits depict these solitary female protagonists in moments of quiet leisure. Set against dreamlike domestic backdrops, her figures recline on unmade beds, sink into overstuffed armchairs, or stretch across the floor, their poses evoking intimacy and vulnerability.

Nicole Nomsa Moyo

The Miami Design District, in partnership with the Design Miami Curatorial Lab, presents Pearl Jam, an innovative exhibition by award-winning designer Nicole Nomsa Moyo. It is now on display throughout the Miami Art District for viewing and will stay throughout Spring 2025. 

Born in Zimbabwe, raised in South Africa, and now based in Toronto, Moyo is celebrated for her creative portfolio that blends cultural heritage with modern design. Inspired by the intricate patterns and bold colors of the Southern African Ndebele tribe, Pearl Jam features interactive, jewelry-themed sculptures, including giant pearls and radiant earring-like forms. 

Anamika Khanna

Renowned Indian couture designer Anamika Khanna, celebrated for blending traditional Indian craftsmanship with global contemporary fashion, will take the stage in Miami. She was a featured speaker at the Untitled Art Fair, where she joined the panel discussion "IPOP: Encounters in Art and Fashion Between India and the West" that explored how India’s textiles, embroidery, and artistry are influencing global art and fashion narratives. When Khanna is not designing for her label, she is also an art collector, making her appearance at Miami Art Basel 2024 an exciting opportunity for Khanna to speak on the importance and appreciation of art throughout history. 

Lucy Ellis

 

Lucy Ellis, honored as the Rabanne Arts Factory winner, explores the intimate connection between humans and technology through her work. Using scrap and found materials, she crafts compelling narratives that delve into themes such as image compression, digital errors, obsolete technology, and the paradox of technophilia versus technophobia. Visitors can immerse themselves in Lucy’s universe in a 40-square-meter space in the publicly accessible Grand Ballroom at the Miami Beach Convention Center. Adding to the experience, Lucy will live-edit animated works, offering a glimpse into her creative process.

Amina Agueznay

Moroccan artist Amina Agueznay is a trained architect and renowned visual artist who blends contemporary art with her cultural heritage, utilizing unique materials like textile buttons, paper, rose petals, and repurposed plastic. 

Roham Shamekh

Dubai-based designer Roham Shamekh will unveil his latest collection, Pharrell’s Echoes, which is a series of sculptural design pieces honors music creative and fashion designer Pharrell Williams. Through this collection, Shamekh delves into the transformative power of creativity, highlighting its role as a driving force for cultural and social innovation. Shamekh has been recognized for his exceptional skills as a multidisciplinary artist, using mediums from photography to sculpting. 

Andrea Chung

At MOCA North Miami, Andrea Chung's compelling solo exhibition, Between Too Late and Too Early, delves into the enduring legacies of colonialism in the Caribbean. Through a blend of mixed media and video, she uncovers complex histories with both artistry and insight. Chung is an American mixed-media artist currently based in San Diego, CA. She is widely known for her work on island nations in the Indian Ocean and the Caribbean, which examines how outsiders construct fantastical perceptions of these regions often labeled as "paradise."
