&nbsp;Are we finally saying goodbye to quiet luxury?

Every August, as the air shifts and chillier days loom closer, students everywhere start dreading the inevitability of <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/fall-2025-fashion-trends-back-to-school-collections-story">back-to-school season</a>. Some look forward to new internships, others see it as another milestone inching them closer to graduation, while plenty cope with the thought of 8:30 a.m. classes by searching for new outfits to wear. Meanwhile, fashion obsessives start counting down to fashion month&mdash;which, as always, <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/new-york-fashion-week-spring-summer-2026-schedule-designers-shows-what-to-see-do-nyfw">kicks off in New York City</a> during the second week of September and <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/paris-fashion-week-spring-summer-2026-schedule-brands-showing-dior-chanel-debut-alaia-everything-to-know">wraps up in Paris in early October</a>. It&rsquo;s a stressful stretch for the fashion world, but one that&rsquo;s equally thrilling.&nbsp;
This season, all eyes are on the Spring/Summer 2026 collections. And the anticipation is especially high, with womenswear debuts from Jonathan Anderson at Dior, Matthieu Blazy at Chanel, and Louise Trotter at Bottega Veneta, to name just a few (remember <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/fashion-creative-directors-guide-jonathan-anderson-dior-loewe">fashion&rsquo;s game of musical chairs</a>?). Naturally, next month's upcoming collections will have us daydreaming about spring, but first, we have to get through fall and the long winter ahead (rumor has it that New York might even see snow as early as October this year). Still, getting a preview of what designers have in mind for warmer days feels like a reward in itself&mdash;something to hold onto as motivation through the months of gray and 4:30 p.m. sunsets.&nbsp;
But before we leap ahead to Spring&rsquo;s unveiling on Sept. 11, it&rsquo;s worth looking back at the Fall/Winter 2025 runways and everything they&rsquo;ve given us to work with for right now. After all, it&rsquo;s the season we&rsquo;re currently stepping into. Fashion insiders are already zeroing in on the <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/fall-winter-trends-runway-shopping-influencers-prada-alaia-chloe">runway-approved trends they&rsquo;re actually shopping for</a>. Certified beauty enthusiasts, on the other hand, are revisiting the standout hair and makeup looks for inspiration. In case you missed it, <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/beauty/fall-winter-2025-hairstyle-trends-inspiration-prada-chanel-boho-bed-hair">hair stayed mostly pared back</a>&mdash;save for dramatic moments at Christian Cowan, Willy Chavarria, Elena Velez, and Thom Browne. Makeup, however, was anything but restrained. 
For longtime beauty obsessives like myself, the shift to bolder, more experimental makeup looks feels like a refreshing change of pace. Perhaps it&rsquo;s even an early sign that the reign of <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion-week/alaia-fall-winter-2023-haute-couture-runway-photos">quiet luxury</a> is losing its steam, and fittingly, makeup is leading the way. Truthfully, it's about time. Sure, the <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/beauty/nude-makeup-clean-girl-look" target="_blank" rel="noopener">glowy, effortless look</a> is easy and clean. But for those of us who first fell in love with makeup through eyeshadow palettes and dark liners, this feels like a homecoming. So go ahead, pull out those palettes you've barely touched and rescue those eyeliners that are about to dry out. They're finally about to have their moment.&nbsp;

<h2 style="text-align: center;">Fall/Winter 2025 Beauty Trends: Frosty Eyes</h2>

Starting off strong with the most winter- and holiday-approved makeup trend to try of all: frosty eyes. This season, Weinsanto, Richard Quinn, and Giambattista Valli were among the luxury labels that embraced the icy look on the runway.&nbsp;
At <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion-week/richard-quinn-fall-winter-2025-collection-london-fashion-week">Richard Quinn</a>, the choice felt particularly on-theme. After all, the show was staged in a literal winter wonderland, with snow falling as models walked down snow-dusted London streets. The collection itself leaned into pale tones&mdash;white, off-white, and butter yellow among them. Makeup followed suit: most models wore bright white eyeshadow, with soft touches of gray to define the eye and add depth to the frosty looks.&nbsp;
<a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion-week/giambattista-valli-haute-couture-spring-summer-2021">Giambattista Valli&rsquo;s</a> makeup artist, Karin Westerlund, took a different approach. Instead of icy lids, she drew striking white lines along the lower lash line to highlight and open up the eye, keeping the rest of the face fresh and minimal.&nbsp;
Then there was Weinsanto, which delivered perhaps the most unexpected take on frosty eyes. Lead makeup artist Marcello Costa sent the models down the runway with stark white lashes against otherwise bare, luminous skin. It was almost as if snow had just dusted their faces moments before.&nbsp;

In case you forgot, <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/beauty/blue-eyeshadow-makeup-color-trend-is-back-inspo-shopping">blue eyeshadow made a brief comeback in Spring 2024</a>, spotted on Iris Law and Lily-Rose Depp. Since then, however, the look has largely receded from the spotlight. Despite its status as a beauty classic&mdash;immortalized in the &lsquo;90s by <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/princess-diana-met-gala-1996-dior-lingerie-slip-dress">Princess Diana</a> and <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/kate-moss-and-chloe-sevigny-saint-laurent-fall-2025-campaign">Kate Moss</a>, and later embraced in the early aughts by Britney Spears and Paris Hilton&mdash;blue eyeshadow has long been considered a risk. For many, reaching for smoky grays or classic black feels easier, even safer, than attempting a wash of blue.&nbsp;
But if last year&rsquo;s fleeting It-girl revival didn&rsquo;t convince you, perhaps high fashion&rsquo;s stamp of approval will. On the Fall/Winter 2025 runways, <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/david-koma-blumarine-creative-director">Blumarine</a> and Christian Cowan made a decisive case for the return of blue eyeshadow.&nbsp;
It was an understated take at Blumarine: a concentrated touch of deep, denim blue pressed into the inner corner of Irina Shayk&rsquo;s lids, diffused seamlessly into warm brown shadow for a wearable contrast. On the other hand, Christian Cowan embraced the shade in full force. Pops of color swept across every look, but it was the vivid washes of sky blue shadow&mdash;stretched confidently across models&rsquo; lids&mdash;that stole the spotlight.

Eyeliner has always added a certain edge to any look&mdash;whether classic black, <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/shopping/brown-eyeliner-multi-purpose" target="_blank" rel="noopener">soft brown</a>, or a more adventurous shade like purple or yellow. This season, however, high-fashion&rsquo;s makeup artists pushed eyeliner to an even bolder approach, experimenting with abstract, sculptural lines. The trend spanned from emerging labels like Ganni and Aniye Records to industry heavyweights like <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion-week/chanel-fall-winter-2025-haute-couture-show-paris-fashion-week-looks">Chanel</a>, <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/dior-new-flagship-store-boutique-new-york-city-spa">Dior</a>, and <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion-week/black-silhouettes-shine-for-giorgio-armani-prive-fall-winter-2025-haute-couture">Giorgio Armani</a>.&nbsp;
At Ganni, models strode down the runway with bright, elongated wings. But they weren&rsquo;t drawn with conventional gel, liquid, or even pomade; they were crafted from thread delicately applied to the lids. Aniye Records took a darker, more dramatic approach: thick, winged liners starting from the inner tear duct and extending outward, reminiscent of Julia Fox&rsquo;s signature grunge glam.&nbsp;
Giorgio Armani played with dual lines: one along the lower lash line extending outward, paired with another across the upper lid, creating a geometric effect. Dior, by contrast, opted for subtlety: a simple black line concentrated at the inner corner, set against an otherwise fresh, minimalist base. It was a departure from their gothy, black ombr&eacute; lips at the Spring/Summer 2024 runways, though never boring.&nbsp;
Perhaps most unexpected was Chanel embracing bold abstraction: dark shadow fully swept across the lids and elongated along the outer quarter of the lower lash line. It was a daring move for the Maison, which infamously favors soft, understated beauty rooted in its ballet-inspired heritage. The result? A fresh, avant-garde departure from Chanel&rsquo;s usual refined elegance&mdash;proof that even the most iconic brands are ready to play.

At Marni, Elie Saab, Frederick Anderson, and Elena Velez, it was all about the grunge. For Elena Velez, it was quintessentially on-brand: the label, known for its dark, metalsmith-inspired aesthetic, showcased wet hair, <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/beauty/how-to-get-smudged-eyeliner-look-indie-sleaze-revival-charli-xcx" target="_blank" rel="noopener">smudged black eyeshadow</a> that looked as if it had been brushed by rain, and a dramatic black center lip. The look felt entirely natural for Velez&mdash;unexpected but perfectly aligned with the brand&rsquo;s edgy identity.&nbsp;
Frederick Anderson offered a striking 180. Their interpretation of grunge was a refined inversion of Velez&rsquo;s moody palette: clean, matte eyeshadow paired with a bold berry blush that extended toward the temples. The result was polished yet still unmistakably grungy, a sophisticated, feminine twist on the aesthetic.
Much like Chanel&rsquo;s abstract eyeliner, it was surprising to see brands like Marni and Elie Saab embrace grungy black eyes. Marni, typically celebrated for its playful, vibrant palette, applied its artistic spirit to glossy black lids. Elie Saab, known for opulent elegance, maintained its signature femininity in its collection, but contrasted it with black, angled shadow.&nbsp;

<h2 style="text-align: center;">Fall/Winter 2025 Beauty Trends: Smoky Gray&nbsp;</h2>

Last but not least: smoky gray eyes, seen at Kim Shui, <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion-week/luar-spring-summer-2025-nyfw-looks-runway-madonna">Luar</a>, and Roberto Cavalli&mdash;and honestly, we&rsquo;re here for all the experimental eye looks this season.&nbsp;
At Kim Shui, the approach was graphic: white eyeshadow stretched from the inner corner to the outer edge of the eye, paired with black eyeliner along the lower lash line. The look was softened and blended with gray eyeshadow and warm brown tones, creating a diffused, multidimensional effect. Meanwhile, <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/roberto-cavalli-iconic-celebrity-looks-zendaya-aaliyah-bella-hadid-taylor-swift">Roberto Cavalli</a> offered a more wearable interpretation: varying shades of cool-toned gray and black swept across the lid, paired with contoured cheeks. It was smoky yet approachable.&nbsp;
Then there was Luar, which made headlines not just for their <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/beauty/what-are-fur-nails-fall-winter-2025-beauty-trend-luar-thom-browne-libertine">controversial fur nails</a>, but also for a striking swanlike eyeshadow, defined by a sharply cut, darker grey cut crease &agrave; la <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/method-actors-iconic-roles-in-hollywood" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Natalie Portman in </a><a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/method-actors-iconic-roles-in-hollywood" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Black Swan</a>.&nbsp;
