Will Marijuana be the Future of Beauty?
Many people talk about marijuana cosmetics, but few actually know anything about them. Cosmetics made from marijuana are the obsession of 2018: while they’re technically legal in the United States, and treading a gray zone in England, many people debate on their actual effectiveness. In Italy, it’s legal to commercialize light marijuana that has a level of THC (the psychoactive element) up to 0.6%.
Although cannabis is known for having many other effects, it has proven to have anti-aging and moisturizing properties for the skin, as well as being a natural anti-inflammatory property. But what exactly is the type of marijuana used in beauty?
What's inside marijuana cosmetics?
In beauty both THC and CBD are used because according to various studies, the skincare benefits are noteworthy. Specifically, the oil extracted from cannabis sativa is very rich in omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids, as well as linoleic acid. This means that it can make the skin softer, hydrated and fuller/plump. Another fundamental beauty ingredient in these cosmetics is CBD oil or cannabis oil from cannabis. This special oil has an almost miraculous anti-inflammatory capacity—it is antioxidant that can reduce wrinkles, acne, psoriasis, and eczema. And it is the ingredient that made The Body Shop’s hemp line famous, created by Anita Roddick in 1998.
Cannabis cosmetics: the most famous brands
But what are some of the brands involved in this booming industry?
Among all the brands, VertlyBalm stands out, whose luxury cosmetics are created using both CBD and THC. Lord Jones’s luxurious body lotion, which is capable of relieving muscle pain and beloved by many celebrities. The candle brand Boy Smells also uses cannabis for their scents. With so many benefits, and legalization seeming to become a global phenomenon, it's no wonder people are jumping in while it's still fresh.
It’s not yet clear if marijuana will become a staple in the skincare industry, but so far people are experimenting left and right!
