So Many Nipples Were Out at Jean Paul Gaultier's Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2025 Show
Of course Ludovic de Saint Sernin leaned into the erotic for his guest collection at the Parisian fashion house.
One look at Jean Paul Gaultier's newest couture show is all it takes to notice the collection's erotic undertones. And that should be no surprise given that Ludovic de Saint Sernin is this season's guest designer. The French house's tradition of bringing in new talent each couture season has made its runways endlessly fascinating, and de Saint Sernin carried the baton for Spring/Summer 2025 with finesse.
The collection, titled "Le Naufrage" (French for "the shipwreck"), puts a spin on the French brand's nautical-inspired archives. The clothes are clearly possessed by de Saint Sernin's best known styles and his own brand of sensuality: intricately handcrafted corsets have much more detail than meets the eye. Grommet-covered leathers appear almost perfectly moulded to the body, like a corseted jacket in anthracite latex. Nipple-forward, sheer dresses are plentiful and make the most out of their lightweight construction with little, flirty details like a strap made to hang off the shoulder. In the Spring/Summer 2025 collection, de Saint Sernin keeps the color palette minimal and focuses on silhouette, and the decision paid off.
The front row at the runway show in Paris embodied the excitement and buzz around the couture reveal. Front row, Jennie from Blackpink shut it down in a nude-colored dress with a plunging neckline and her intricate, sculptural nails. Ashley Graham also sat front and center, not too far from Rick Owens, who joined in one of his classic all-black get-ups. de Saint Sernin—who also helms his eponymous label and formerly creatively directed Ann Demeulemeester—joins a list of Jean Paul Gaultier guest couture designer alums that includes Simone Rocha, Haider Ackermann, Glenn Martens, and more.
