Marine Serre Imagines an Ecofuture with Fall/Winter 2021 Collection
Marine Serre presents the Fall/Winter 2021 "Core" collection during Paris Fashion Week.
There are those who identify her as a post-apocalyptic designer and those who argue that Marine Serre is the designer of our time. Surely, she is a great witness of the fashion system, always in step with the times. For the co-ed "Core" Fall/Winter 2021 collection, the French designer pauses to reflect on the pandemic period. "This past year has been difficult for everyone, but there are no more doubts, things have to be done differently." Marine Serre says, "We want to bring Ecofuturism to the streets."
She decided to present with a documentary, a book, and an unmistakable prêt-à-porter idea of Ecofuturism, which has to do with sustainable ethics at the foundation of the brand. With the book and the documentary presented, the French brand exhibits its creative and production process, starting from the ateliers, passing through studios to the factories that carry out the transformation of regenerated fabrics and recycled yarns, up to the muses and the community of models wearing her creations.

Marine Serre wants to demonstrate a new way of consuming fashion, and presents a collection made up of 50 percent regenerated materials and the remaining 50 percent made using recycled fibers. It's a fashion archaeologist's approach that unhinges the glossy ideals that have been perpetuated for years with skillful reconstruction techniques, patchwork, and fabrics that define and influence silhouettes.
The collection consists of leather coats and trousers with a laser-fined moon finish, silk miniskirts and windbreakers, utilitarian uniforms with sporty vibes, fluid jersey dresses, silk scarves, and everyday accessories. The denim is covered with moons and dyed deep red and black to renew the traditional Marine Serre print. The deconstructed tartan scarves wrap the body, reminiscent of Scottish kilts that live thanks to the designer's punk heritage. The "Crazy Pullovers" take their name from the bags in which they were found and are arranged on the silhouettes and hybridized with the moon print jersey boasting bright colors superimposed on tattoo prints, patchwork elements, and layering. The "Redefined Workwear" is the multipocket jacket, renewed with a new fit and the addition of pockets designed specifically to accommodate easy access to hand-sanitizer. Sharp tailoring, blankets in regenerated fleece, and a mix of patterns unveil the designer's imagination: a hybrid, sustainable, underground "ecofuture" from the Marine Serre community.
