The stunning diamond, valued at nearly $2.7 million and previously thought to be costume jewelry, will be up for auction on November 30.

An extremely rare 34-carat <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/beauty/face-diamond-gems-beauty-trend" target="_blank" rel="noopener">diamond</a> was thought to be a cheap piece of jewelry and almost ended up in the trash. According to the <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-tyne-59076773" target="_blank" rel="noopener">BBC</a>, the gem belongs to a 70-year-old woman living in Northern England and is estimated to be worth more than $2.5 million. The owner, who wanted her identity to remain undisclosed, says she can&rsquo;t remember exactly where she bought the <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/pink-sakura-diamond-breaks-auction-record" target="_blank" rel="noopener">jewelry</a> with the gem, but she said it was probably a flea market.
While tidying up her house, the owner found the old gemstone and decided to throw it away. However, a vigilant neighbor offered to evaluate the stone and turned to Featonby&rsquo;s Auctioneers. Experts who valued the stone initially thought it was just diamond-like cubic zirconia. After finding out that the stone could still be a real gem, experts sent it to Antwerp, Belgium, where it was confirmed that it was indeed a 34-carat diamond.
The <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/valerie-messika-jewelry-designer-interview-2019" target="_blank" rel="noopener">diamond</a>, called the "Mysterious Stone," with its unexpected history, will be sold at the Featonby auction on November 30th. The diamond is expected to be purchased for approximately upwards of $2 million.
