6 Trends from the Pre-Fall 2022 Collections
For those in-betweener months when it's not quite cold, not quite hot.
Pre-Fall is for those in-betweener months where the day is warm, but the world gets a little chilly by sundown. Often released solely through lookbooks, Pre-Fall is a test-run for Fall/Winter trends, using buyer and editor responses to formulate a plan: Should we go with this trend or that trend? And, unlike avant-garde Spring/Summer or Fall/Winter runway shows, Pre-Fall pares back the drama to create timeless yet timely pieces.
With the post-pandemic opening (and subsequent reclosing with Omicron), designers continue to use fashion as a whimsical outlet for a world in perpetual limbo. Nothing is particularly serious; volume is big, skirts are short, colors are bright and mixed. Oscar De La Renta, Ganni, and Versace all utilized rainbow in an array of knits and silk ensembles. At the same time, Tory Burch and Christopher John Rogers used the trend with traditional prints of polka dot and plaid. A soft lime green popped up within the collections of Balenciaga, Helmut Lang, Carolina Herrera, and Del Core, while yellow was seen on Jil Sander, Dior, Ulla Johnson, Staud, and Prabal Gurung.
Skirt suits dominated the Chanel Metiers d'Art collection and were finessed to their respective aesthetic by Givenchy, Oscar De La Renta, and Alessandra Rich. Brooches as an accessory were commonplace through Chanel and were later seen sprinkled throughout at Jil Sander, leading us to believe that the umpteenth of sparkle and traditional femininity one can muster within a single outfit is on-trend—no complaints coming from our end.
