Cailee Spaeny Reveals Gigi Hadid Gave Her Runway Tips at the Miu Miu Show
For her runway debut at the Miu Miu Spring/Summer 2023 show, Gigi Hadid served as Cailee Spaeny's impromptu runway coach.
As Cailee Spaeny begins her unofficial modeling career, she's already receiving tips from one of the industry's current top supermodels: Gigi Hadid. As Spaeny made her debut runway appearance closing the Miu Miu Spring/Summer 2024 show during Milan Fashion Week, Spaeny revealed that Hadid (who also walked in the show) gave Spaeny so much treasured advice before she hit the catwalk.
In a recent interview with InStyle, Spaeny reflects on how she was at first nervous but eventually felt at home with all the dynamic backstage energy. As for where Hadid comes in, “She's like, ‘Tell me how you feel, don't feel rushed, this is where you look when the photographers are taking photos of you,’” Spaeny recalls.
"And then at the end, she started screaming and gave me a hug," she continued. "She was saying, ‘That's how you close the show, everybody!’ She was really pumping me up."
And while Spaeny's modeling career seems promising, as of now, most fans have turned their focus to her upcoming role as Priscilla Presley in the new Sofia Coppola-directed film Priscilla, coming to theatres on Nov. 3. The film follows the relationship between Elvis and Priscilla, from when they first met when Priscilla was only 14 years old to when they got married and had children.
Speaking about the film, Spaeny said, "I'm really proud of this film, and I think it's rare to promote a film that you genuinely love, and you genuinely care about the people who worked on it."
She highlighted that she always wanted to work with Coppola, especially after being first introduced to Coppola's work when she watched Virgin Suicides as a teenager. While she auditioned for numerous Coppola projects over the years, it was Kirsten Dunst who helped Spaeny land the role of Presley.
“When my friend Kirsten told me I had to see Cailee for the role, I paid attention,” Coppola told InStyle. “I knew when I met Cailee over breakfast that she’d be perfect. She was obsessed with Priscilla and had done her research.”
Starring alongside Spaeny playing the role of Elvis is Jacob Elordi, whom Spaeny also sang praises.
“They [Elvis and Priscilla] have such a specific relationship,” Spaeny said. "There are definitely tumultuous times, but there was also great love there, and I don't think I could have done those scenes if I didn't trust him as a person and as an actor. But I did, absolutely."
Elordi shared a similar sentiment about Spaeny, stating, “Cailee is incredibly sensitive and deep, somebody who feels everything and has seen lives well beyond her own, like Priscilla. It inspired a very real need for tenderness and care in me that felt not too dissimilar to the relationship we played in the film."
