October 3rd marks 53 years of iconic Gwen Stefani fashion moments and, you can be sure, there are plenty.

Our favorite punk princess is celebrating her birthday this week, and there’s no better way to commemorate than with a trip down memory lane. A true exception to the laws of aging, Gwen Stefani is the ultimate "cool" girl (no pun intended). She has never failed to make a statement, even if it includes accessorizing with a bindi, fur bikini, or adult braces.

In an interview with Vogue, Stefani explains that she has always been a fashionista, even when on a budget. Many of the iconic No Doubt-era looks were outfitted with boxed hair dye and over-the-top clothes sent for free. Since dating the No Doubt bassist Tony Kanal, Stefani became infatuated with Indian culture, rich colors, and opulent fabrics. Stefani was frequently spotted sporting silky mid-drift baring skirts with decadent jewelry and henna tattoos.

It was not until 2002 that Stefani started to work with stylist Andrea Lieberman, making the punk princess' dream come true. Liberman and Stefani created their first look on the set of Eve’s "Let me Blow Ya Mind" music video. The ensemble made quite a statement, complete with pin-up curls and a bedazzled red crop top. It has been magic ever since. The duo agrees that some of the happiest career memories were created making the tomboy-rocker vision come to life.

Since becoming the ultimate girl boss on The Voice, Stefani has preferred classic Hollywood style with a nod to her punk rock roots. Platinum blonde hair and red lips are frequently accompanied by a cascade of rhinestones, vintage letterman jackets, and equally impressive pumps to match.

We watched her transform from the blue-haired No Doubt lead and into the confident, red-lipped judge on The Voice. The independent it-girl reintroduced fun to fashion, painting the red carpet with splashes of plaid, animal print, and various shades of her red lip. From Harajuku Lovers to our favorite “Rich Girl,” here are 15 of Gwen Stefani’s most iconic looks.
