Taking from his first "Safe Sex Forever" collection in 1996, the designer's new campaign features a pair of simple white socks.

In his <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/iconic-fashion-tributes-to-lgbtq-culture" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Spring/Summer 1996 collection</a>, <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/jean-paul-gaultier-winnie-harlow-coco-rocha-documentary-loic-prigent" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jean Paul Gaultier</a> spread the message of <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/men/louis-vuitton-virgil-abloh-sneaker-sothebys-auction-price" target="_blank" rel="noopener">AIDS</a> prevention for the first time by printing the words "Safe Sex Forever" on his speckled t-shirts. "My only regret?" said the fashion legend. "Not having invented the condom: the most beautiful of clothes." Now, the designer revives the same iconic phrase 25 years later in a new campaign to fight the spread of this disease.
In 1990, AIDS claimed the life of Gaultier's partner, Francis Menuge. Since then, the designer has worked tirelessly to spread the message of disease prevention to the masses. During the <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/paris-haute-couture-fashion-week-2021-highlights" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Spring/Summer 2021 Haute Couture fashion shows</a>, Gaultier hosted a virtual fundraising gala for Sidaction, a French organization that sponsors HIV and AIDS research and helps people around the world who are living with the disease.

Gaultier's new design is a pair of stark white <a href="https://sidaction.jeanpaulgaultier.com/en/product/safe-sex-socks" target="_blank" rel="noopener">socks</a> boasting those three important words&mdash;Safe Sex Forever&mdash;in dark red. This limited edition pair retail for &euro;22 on <a href="sidaction.jeanpaulgaultier.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sidaction.jeanpaulgaultier.com</a> and at the Tom Greyhound store in Paris. All proceeds from the sale of the socks will be donated to Sidaction.

&ldquo;The fight against AIDS is above all a personal story: this fight is particularly close to my heart. I was confronted with this scourge which took my friend away,&rdquo; said Gaultier. &ldquo;I remember the rejection that patients faced at the beginning. It has always revolted me, knowing that everyone could be affected one day. I want to speak to young people and try to raise their awareness because they always think that HIV and AIDS doesn&rsquo;t concern them.&rdquo;
