With flared sleeves and elegant headpieces in earth tones, Max Mara paraded its Resort 2025 collection through the Doge's Palace in Venice.&nbsp;

Max Mara's <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/best-looks-resort-2025" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Resort</a> 2025 collection was set against the historic backdrop of Venice's Doge's Palace, making it impossible to forget that the collection was inspired by the city's reputation as a crossroads between East and West. The runway was full of earthy neutrals in rich, draped fabric. Many of the garments celebrated Marco Polo's travels and drew inspiration from the marbles of the Basilica of San Marco. <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/every-celebrity-at-the-jacquemus-show-in-capri-dua-lipa-la-casa-fall-winter-2024-" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Celebrities</a> like Kate Hudson, Brie Larson and Yara Shahidi watched the show from the front row, adding to the excitement and glamor of the event.
The collection opened with a number of camel coats in black, white and light brown. Following the coats, opulent silks were shown in shades reminicent of what Marco Polo could have transported from ancient Japan through Constantinople. "I was interested in exploring the beauty generated by the meeting of cultures," explained Ian Griffiths, Max Mara's creative director. "[Venice], in the Middle Ages, was a crossroads between East and West. The cradle of what we today call <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/best-weekender-bags-for-summer-luxury" target="_blank" rel="noopener">luxury</a>."

Large flared and puffed sleeves, headpieces, and velvet pannier skirts were the stars of the show, calling to mind large paintings by Bellini or Carpaccio with their timeless extravagance. Venice&rsquo;s role in the political landscape of the Middle Ages, and its continued influence today, was shown thoughtfully in each piece.
The outerwear in the collection is bold and eye-catching, from lavish "robes de chambre" to parkas, trench coats, and tabards. The silk duster coats were particularly memorable, as they were made in prints inspired by the mosaics found in Venice's famed Basilico San Marco. The asymmetrically draped velvet dresses in the collection featured the same intricate patterns. Griffiths noted that the use of these patterns represent a return to his youth as a designer. "My last collection in school was inspired by the mosaics of San Marco," he said. "I made it with a colleague who attended Manchester Polytechnic. I took those studies out of the drawers... it's exciting to see them on the catwalk today."
