Boho 3.0 is the Spring/Summer 2022 Fashion Trend You Never Knew You Needed
This spring, designers introduce Boho 3.0—an up-to-the-minute reimagining of the celebrated free-spirited style.
The Spring/Summer 2022 Ready-to-Wear collections have made it clear: Boho is back—this time with a fresh take on silhouettes, a special attention to craftsmanship, and revamped patterns. The ruffles, lace, and eyelets seen at Simone Rocha were a polished version of the feminine-grunge aesthetic—a precursor to the boho-chic looks of the early 2000s—while Molly Goddard paired the label's signature tulle with loose-fitting jeans and oversized knits for the ultimate downtown cool. At Gabriela Hearst's Chloé, models with wet-look hair walked along the Seine in a loose patchwork of caftans, crochet, and organic accessories.
The public thirst for a bohemian fashion revival comes from much of the same feelings as its turn-of-the-millennium counterpart. Leading up to the Y2K boho era, fashion and pop culture overflowed with Web 2.0-inspired motifs, cyberpunk style, and futuristic themes. In rejecting futura fashion, boho followers turned instead toward nostalgia, yearning for the bygone, carefree spirit of the '60s and '70s. Today's boho revival finds its roots in a similar need for escape from a world inundated with information overload, overconnection, and social unrest. Boho nouveau is a breath of fresh air.
