Ever since society left the 2000s in the past, it seems like we can't get enough of the moments, feelings, and sensations the decade brought to our lives. Look, I'm an '05 kid, and I was promised so much fun in a variety of avenues. But things like the old Cartoon Network, rubber Silly Bands, and a predominantly hand-me-down wardrobe exclusively from brands like Aeropostale and Hollister kept me in tune to the Y2K wave growing up. Now, it seems like yet another rise of the style is on the horizon.
When thrifting became popular on social media in the late 2010s, some conversations about Y2K would come about. Yet, ever since the pandemic made us distance ourselves from one another, the ways that chronically online groups like Generation Z began diving into nostalgia were almost immediate.&nbsp;
Camouflage cargos, kitten-heeled mules, and the rise of logomania, mainly through handbags, began to be tapped into in second-hand markets, apps, and websites rapidly. Eventually, platforms like TikTok and Instagram pushed the aesthetic onto users, garnering a more universally 2000s-obsessed crowd.

Flared jeans, bandana tops, and the controversial jorts had a massive uptick during the time. But, as we saw after quarantine, a wave of minimalism and "quiet luxury" took over the fashion realm.

So, fashion lovers and beyond followed the clean yet smart style that defined the '90s and returned in 2023. Just like most things in culture and beyond, Y2K style would eventually make its return. In the midst of a divisive and uncertain era, going back to the past is a natural phenomenon, and I think Y2K coming back in the year 2026 can be a positive thing.
