The Dune actor and fashion icon turned heads in a "naked dress."

It felt like <a href="https://preview.lofficielusa.com/tags/zendaya">Zendaya</a> stepped into a time machine Saturday night.
The Dune actor arrived at the 2024 Rock &amp; Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony channeling a flawless homage to <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/young-cher-fashion-moments-70s">Cher</a> by way of a <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/bob-mackie-dresses-barbie-cher-costume-designer">Bob Mackie</a> gown. Can we hear a little commotion for the dress? The glittering, hand-beaded number is from a 2001 collection by the American designer (when Zendaya was just five years old). It honors Mackie and Cher's fashion legacy as epic collaborators for her outfits on The Cher Show and The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour, as well as other appearances.
Zendaya complemented the ensemble with a white silk satin trench coat, also by Mackie; meticulously sculpted cuffs; and Christian Louboutin's infamous So Kate pumps. Her long tresses seemed like another nod to one of Cher&rsquo;s trademark hairstyles. The full look was styled by her <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/zendaya-law-roach-friendship-timeline-the-cutting-room-floor">longtime stylist</a> and collaborator Law Roach, who recently published his debut book, How to Build a Fashion Icon.
Through her luxurious garbs at the induction ceremony in Ohio, the <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/best-looks-2024-emmys-red-carpet-celebrities-selena-gomez-jeremy-allen-white">Emmy Award</a>-winning performer gave a masterclass in the art of method dressing. After all, she was not just there to channel the &lsquo;70s icon, but she also personally inducted Cher into the Rock &amp; Roll Hall of Fame. Thus, the choice of attire was not only a nod to the Mackie muse, but a clear assertion that she and Roach know how to have fun with their deep knowledge of fashion history.&nbsp;

Cher wore similar designs throughout the 1970s. While other notable figures like <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/pop-culture/diana-ross-style-the-supremes-songs">Diana Ross</a> and <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/music/tina-turner-music-documentary-hbo">Tina Turner</a> wore Mackie&rsquo;s designs in the 1970s, no one managed to make it such a major component of their legacy like Cher. 
Coinciding with the moment Zendaya hit the red carpet, Roach took to his Instagram stories to reveal the backstory of what she was wearing and to shed some light on the archival piece. The duo began working together in 2011, and the first look Roach assembled for Zendaya was her outfit to the Never Say Never red carpet. Since then, the pair have gone on to become bonafide sartorial stars and forces to be reckoned with.
