Zendaya's 2024 Met Gala Look Is Her Edgiest Yet in Maison Margiela
Serving as one of this year's Met Gala co-chairs, the Challengers star certainly came to play.
Has anyone else noticed how busy Zendaya has been this year? With two new films, bustling press tours, and countless red carpet appearances, it's astonishing how the Challengers and Dune star manages to navigate her hectic, jam-packed schedule and serving looks left and right at that. You would think that, at this point, Zendaya would hit pause. But that's just not the way she operates. On February 15, Vogue announced that Zendaya would serve as one of this year's Met Gala co-chairs alongside Jennifer Lopez, Chris Hemsworth, and Bad Bunny. So, with her last appearance dating back to 2019, when the theme was "Camp: Notes on Fashion," fans were certainly pleased to know that she was making a Met Gala comeback this year.
And now the time has finally come. Zendaya is no stranger to bold fashion statements. I mean, who could forget her elaborate Cinderella dress at the 2019 Met Gala? And of course, we're sure we're not the only ones still thinking about her Joan of Arc-inspired look for "Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination" in 2018. Still, she seriously outdid herself at this year's festivities.
For "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion," Zendaya took the "Garden of Time" dress code very seriously. Styled by celebrity wardrobe stylist Law Roach, the Challengers star donned a meticulously crafted Maison Margiela Artisanal custom gown designed by the iconic John Galliano. In true spring fashion, the peacock-inspired dress featured a satin corset over a sage lamé and organza bias-cut dress. The dress also featured an aluminum drape and bow, as well as blue and emerald green nature motifs.
But Zendaya spared no detail when it came to embodying the garden theme—and that extended to her beauty look. Though her dark rose smoky eyeshadow and brown lip were a real head-turner, the real standout was her '20s-inspired ultra-thin eyebrows, paying homage to Josephine Baker's signature look. With each carefully arched line, she evoked the glamour of a bygone era while infusing it with her own modern flair, capturing the essence of timeless beauty amidst the garden of fashion reinvention.
Unsurprisingly, Zendaya's dedication to the "Garden of Time" dress code was not confined to her attire alone; it was a holistic expression of artistry that transcended fashion. Every aspect of her ensemble, from the couture gown to the sculpted eyebrows, reflected a deep appreciation for the intricacies of nature and the elegance of the past.
