Zendaya Stars in Valentino's Fall Campaign
The "Euphoria" actress has become a muse to the house.
Zendaya first became the face of Valentino at the end of 2020, and now appears as the face of a new fall ad campaign. Creative Director Pierpaolo Piccioli tried to move away from the star image of the actress, loved by millions of fans, and to show her as a person rather than a model. Photographer David Sims captured black and white film and images of Zendaya at The Palace Theater in Los Angeles. The yet-to-be-released videos will show the actress as if in everyday life, lounging on a couch or looking at a script.
The creative director explained his approach for the ads: “This is why I chose her, for all that she represents. Throughout an aesthetic choice, it is possible to represent a whole identity. This is the power of fashion and this is the power of human beings,” he told WWD in a video interview from his home in Nettuno, outside Rome. “I think it’s fundamental to pass strong messages through the identity of a person and Zendaya perfectly represents the values that I want Valentino to stand for, such as equality and inclusivity."
