Director Yorgos Lanthimos is back again with another soon-to-be smash hit.

Earlier this year, Emma Stone's close-cropped <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/beauty/the-most-iconic-pixie-cuts-of-all-time" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pixie cut</a> was the hairstyle seen round the world. Months later, it became clear to pop culture fiends across the Internet that the look wasn't simply a breath of fresh air&mdash;instead, the style was the aftermath of the <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/beauty/all-of-the-actors-who-shaved-their-head-for-a-role-emma-stone-bald" target="_blank" rel="noopener">bald look</a> she sports in her latest film,&nbsp;Bugonia. In August 2025, the star opened up about the look and revealed that she went all-in for the role and shaved her head completely. Though the project was already highly anticipated by the film community, Stone's commitment to the role intrigued plenty more potential moviegoers.&nbsp;
Earlier this year, the film premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival and again at the 2025 Venice Film Festival, where <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/red-carpet-looks-celebrities-at-the-2025-venice-film-festival" target="_blank" rel="noopener">stars showed up in style</a> to catch an early glimpse at one of the hottest movies of the year&mdash;an apparently apt attribution, as the&nbsp;Bugonia reportedly earned a 6-minute standing ovation at Venice Film Festival.&nbsp;

Adapted from the 2003 South Korean film, Save The Green Planet!,&nbsp;Bugonia follows the wild journey that ensues when two conspiracy theorists kidnap a high-profile CEO, convinced that she's an alien from another planet.&nbsp;
Production for the film originally began back in 2020, with Jang Joon-hwan&mdash;the writer and director of the 2003 film&mdash;attached as director and Will Tracy as screenwriter. Shortly after, acclaimed horror-dark comedy filmmaker <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/eddington-movie-pedro-pascal-controversy-pandemic-political" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ari Aster</a> joined the project as a producer. In early 2024, Yorgos Lanthimos replaced Jang as director, and filming began later that spring after casting choices were finalized.&nbsp;
Under Lanthimos, the name of the project also changed, with the final title being "Bugonia," a Greek word that refers to a millennia-old Mediterranean belief that linked bees with corpse decay, in a nod to Plemons' character's beekeeping profession.&nbsp;

In&nbsp;Bugonia, <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/emma-stone-stars-in-new-louis-vuitton-fall-2025-campaign" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Emma Stone</a> stars as Michelle, the abducted pharmaceutical CEO, opposite Jesse Plemons's Teddy, a deluded beekeeper-turned-conspiracy theorist. Aidan Delbis plays Plemons' conspiracist buddy, while comedian Stavros Halkias takes on the role of a local police officer, with <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/alicia-silverstone-movies-clueless-90s" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Alicia Silverstone</a> playing his mother.&nbsp;
