Courtney Love Criticizes Lily James' New Hulu Series 'Pam & Tommy'
The singer blasted the upcoming Hulu series and James for broadcasting her friend Pamela Anderson's struggles following the release of her sex tape.
Last week, pictures of Lily James and Sebastian Stan from the set of Hulu's new miniseries Pam & Tommy made fans eager to watch the upcoming show about actress Pamela Anderson and Mötley Crue drummer Tommy Lee. However, Anderson's friend Courtney Love was less pleased.
The show will chronicle the ups and downs of Anderson and Lee's marriage after the release of their now-infamous sex tape. In a now-deleted Facebook post, Love condemned the series for making light of such a dark time in her friend's life. “I find this so fucking outrageous . When Pam / tommy sex tape was out / myself @pattyschemel @xmadmx were making a record. And the lone women in many recording studios in la…," she wrote. “Where all / ALL! The staff engineers / producers / owners / were watching the sex tape with huge schadenfraude . . Guffaws , It was disgusting . I banned anyone discussing it. It destroyed my friend Pamelas life . Utterly.”
She also revealed that she had been contacted by people from the show who asked to use an old Rolling Stone cover of her from that time. “Last week I was asked to approve using a rolling stone cover of mine / shot by mark seliger in this piece of shit . That they had approved . I said ‘fuck no .’ shocked . Gentleman don’t approve this sort of thing," she said, adding, "My heart goes out to Pammy…”
Before she finished, she also called out James who is playing Anderson in the series. “And shame on lily James whoever the fuck she is," she said, before concluding the post, “#vile.”
Anderson has yet to speak out on the matter. She has not used any of her social media accounts since January 2021 when she explained that she would be leaving social media now that she is "settled into the life."
Anderson and Lee were married in 1995 four days after their first meeting. They had a notably tumultuous relationship and divorced three years later. However, just after their wedding, a sex tape from their honeymoon was stolen from their home and sold. At the time, the video was a major subject of Internet and tabloid gossip, as was the ensuing legal battle between the couple and the distribution company.
James and Stan co-star in the Hulu series as the title characters, while Seth Rogen has been cast to play the man who stole and leaked their sex tape. The show began filming early last month, and no release date has been revealed.
