Lily Collins explains why the second season of Emily in Paris will not use the pandemic as a plot point.

The second season of <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/everything-we-know-about-emily-in-paris-season-2-lily-collins-netflix-release" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Emily in Paris</a> premieres on Netflix this Wednesday, and despite having been filmed during the pandemic, the show will not be addressing the global health crisis in the upcoming episodes. Lead actress <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/lily-collins-claps-back-at-critics-optimistic-emily-in-paris-netflix-character" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Lily Collins</a>, who also serves as a producer on the series, explained in a recent interview the reasoning behind this decision.
According to Collins, the idea is that the series is light and a moment of escape from reality. &ldquo;Season 1 allowed us an outlet when that came up and we felt it was something we needed to keep. Not approaching [COVID-19] brings a feeling of escapism, joy, and laughter when we need it most&rdquo;, declared the actress.

However, recording the episodes in the midst of the pandemic was a major challenge, as outside, everyone was obviously wearing masks. &ldquo;We recorded in a very populated city where people are wearing masks and we recorded a show that takes place in a world where COVID doesn't exist. So you had to make sure that when we were shooting the masks were off the face and when we stopped the masks came back. There were a few times when they started filming and I said, 'Wait, half the people in the scene are still wearing a mask,'&rdquo; she said.
The new season will also tackle a new French setting as Emily joins her friends in for a luxury getaway in Saint-Tropez. "Honestly, Emily doesn't know what's going to happen and that's the beauty of the way they write the series," said Collins.
