Not Even Emma Stone Knew About Andrew Garfield's 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' Role
Emma Stone was not happy that her former co-star lied to her about his Spider-Man: No Way Home appearance.
If you were shocked by Andrew Garfield's surprise appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home, you're not alone.
Fans had been speculating for months about whether or not former Spider-Man actors Garfield and Tobey McGuire would reprise their roles in the new film. However, the information was so top-secret, that not even Garfield's former co-star Emma Stone knew about it. In a recent interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the Tick, Tick... Boom! actor revealed that Stone repeatedly sent him text messages asking about his participation in the film. "Emma kept texting me. She was like, 'Are you in this new Spider-Man movie?' And I was like, 'I don't know what you're talking about,'" Garfield said.
Expectedly, Stone was not happy to learn that she received the same treatment and had as much information as journalists and fans had from her ex-boyfriend. Garfield laughed, "She was like, 'Shut up. Just tell me.' And then she saw the movie and said to me, 'You're an idiot.'"
Stone played Gwen Stacey in The Amazing Spider-Man, where she was Peter Parker's love interest, played by Garfield. Spider-Man stars must have a history of dating their co-stars.
The Spider-Man films have spawned a number of A-list couples. Tobey Maguire briefly dated Kirsten Dunst while filming Spider-Man (2002), while Garfield started his five-year relationship with Stone on the set of The Amazing Spider-Man in 2010. Now, Tom Holland, the actor to don the red and blue suit, is dating actress Zendaya, who plays his love interest MJ in the franchise.
