Princess Diana's Friend Abandons 'The Crown' Over 'Disrespectful' Script
Jemima Khan, a writer and longtime friend of Princess Diana, has left the Netflix series in response to the show's depiction of the late monarch.
Jemima Khan, a private friend of Princess Diana, has decided to abandon her partnership with the series The Crown after being hired as a story consultant by Netflix. Khan, who helped writer Peter Morgan construct the script, was a key figure in the final years of Diana's life.
According to the Sunday Times, Khan attributed her exit to a disagreement regarding the storyline's direction, later asking to withdraw all her contributions and writing credit. "It was very important to me that the final years of my friend's life were portrayed with precision and compassion, as has not always happened in the past," she told the newspaper.
According to British press reports, Khan and Morgan had a brief love affair but parted ways earlier this year when reunited with his estranged wife Gillian Anderson.
The news of Khan's exit comes not long after photos of Netflix released photos on set from the show's upcoming season. No official release date has been set, but Season 5 of The Crown is expected to hit the streaming platform in November 2022.
