Kanye West Documentary Coming to Netflix
The film is expected to cover everything from the rapper's early career to his 2020 presidential campaign.
You may think you know Kanye West, but his upcoming Netflix documentary will take you behind the scenes for all of his most controversial moments. According to Billboard, the streaming giant paid over $30 million for the rights to the untitled project which is currently in the post-production stages. Filmmakers Clarence "Coodie" Simmons and Chike Ozah, who previously collaborated with the rapper on his "Through the Wire" and "Jesus Walks" music videos, are at the helm of the film. The publication also indicated that the pair have been documenting West's life on camera since the '90s.
While the documentary will surely cover West's years married to Kim Kardashian and the introduction of their four children, it's unclear if it will also chronicle their recent divorce. However, audiences can rest assured that the never-before-seen footage and home videos will discuss his rise to fame, the establishment of his brand Yeezy, as well as West's controversial run for president in 2020. The film will also broach some of the musician's more somber moments, like the death of his mother Donda.
According to a source for Billboard, West gave Simmons and Ozah his approval on the picture, which is expected to drop on Netflix by the end of 2021. The film will be in good company, as the streaming giant released a documentary on rap legend The Notorious B.I.G. early last month.
