Inspired by Luke Jennings' novel Codename Villanelle, the thriller and dark comedy series Killing Eve is finally returning to Netflix. The cult-favorite show was released in 2018 and had 4 successful seasons since, with Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer at the helm. Following the problematic relationship of a spy and a killer—and all the feelings that come with it—Killing Eve will have you at the edge of your seat at all times.

Here, L'OFFICIEL rounds up everything you need to know about the show, and all the ways you can now stream it.

Plot

The show follows the turmoil of Eve, a bored British spy who's also a very intelligent security officer, and Villanelle, a talented killer. Eve has to hunt her down, and the series follows the long journey of their confusing yet entertaining relationship. The first season of Killing Eve was released back in April 2018, followed by seasons 2 and 3. The final season was released in February 2022, and, needless to say, fans were (a bit) shocked at its ending.

Characters

Played by Sandra Oh, Eve Polastri is a thrill seeker who seems to be unfulfilled at the beginning of the series. She was born in the U.K. but was raised in the United States, so she doesn't have a British accent. Talented killer Villanelle is played by actress Jodie Comer, and can be very charming when she needs to. Villanelle also has a dark and mysterious past that unfolds with Killing Eve's plot. According to Comer, the character uses clothes to express herself and to disassociate, in a way, from the difficulties she's faced in her life.

Vilanelle is tied to Russian handler Konstantin, played by Kim Bodnia. He's the closest thing Villanelle has to family, yet his actions say otherwise. Another important character of the show is Carolyn Martens (played by Fiona Shaw), who's initially introduced to viewers as a M16 officer working with Eve. Her character changes throughout the series, including her manipulation skills.

Other characters that contribute to the intense storyline include Niko Polastri (Eve's husband), Aaron Peel (a young tech genius that wants to sell a secret weapon), Hélène (another handler), and many more.

Awards

The show's success was highlighted during the premiere of season 3, which had an average of 1.1 million viewers, and its many awards. Killing Eve won outstanding awards throughout the years its aired, including the British Academy Television Award for Best Drama Series, the TCA Award for Outstanding New Program, the British Academy Television Craft Award for Best Sound: Fiction, etc.

Actresses Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer have also won a fair amount of awards for their outstanding parts as Eve and Vilanelle. Oh won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Television Series Drama, Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance, and the Critics' Choice Television Award for Best Actress in a Drama Series. Comer won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series and the British Academy Television Award for Best Actress.

How to Watch

Currently, the show is exclusively streaming on AMC+, and you can only watch some seasons of the show on Prime Video. However, if you haven't watched the show yet—or if you want to simply rewatch it—the thriller is (finally) returning to Netflix on April 15, so you'll be able to watch the story unfold without too much hastle.
