Will Ariana Grande Perform at the Superbowl Halftime Show with The Weeknd?
In November, it was announced that The Weeknd would be headlining the 2021 Superbowl LV Halftime Show, however, fans now believe Ariana Grande may be joining him on the stage. The rumor began on Twitter, but supporters of the "Thank U, Next" songstress are running with it in hopes that it could inspire a last minute duet between the two singers.
One user said, "@ArianaGrande is now rumored to be joining @theweeknd for the Super Bowl Halftime performance this year for their hit single ['Love Me Harder,'] this is a rumor!" Many like-minded followers responded with their support of the idea.
While no official confirmation has been made, there are several pieces of circumstantial evidence to support the theory. In 2014, the artists teamed up on the single "Love Me Harder" for the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack. More recently, The Weeknd (born Abel Tesfaye) was featured on Grande's song "Off the Table," which he co-wrote for her new album Positions.
Another reason many find this rumor plausible is the long-standing tradition of special guests at Superbowl Halftime Shows. Often, more than one performer is announced as headliners for the show, and even then, other artists usually join in for a song or two (see: Jennifer Lopez and Shakira's 2020 performance featuring Bad Bunny and J Balvin). However, no other artists, headlining or otherwise, have been formally announced. With their history of songs together, Grande seems a top candidate to share the show with the "Blinding Lights" singer.
The Superbowl LV kicks off Sunday, February 7 at 6:30 p.m. EST with Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defending their home turf against last year's champions the Kansas City Chiefs.
