Most of the times, singers rely on other songwriters to write their lyrics, and you might have found out by now that some truly amazing hits like Whitney Houston&rsquo;s "I Will Always Love You," were in reality penned by other artists, in this case the Queen of Country&mdash;<a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/pop-culture/reasons-to-love-dolly-parton-music-philanthropy-fashion" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dolly Parton</a>.&nbsp;
Frequently enough, songwriters become famous <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/music/gwen-stefani-new-music-let-me-reintroduce-myself" target="_blank" rel="noopener">singers</a> in their own right once they get to a point where they no longer want to simply sell the songs they write, which is, by the way, an extremely lucrative business once you start making money from selling tracks to big-name <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/music/justin-bieber-announces-new-album-justice-lyrics-songs" target="_blank" rel="noopener">artists</a>. Singer-songwriters like Pharrell and Sia have proven to be musical powerhouses, not only rising to the top of the charts themselves but helping other musicians get there, too.

Kelly Clarkson's 2004 hit "Breakaway" was actually written by emo queen Avril Lavigne.

Ed Sheeran penned "Love Yourself," made popular on Justin Bieber's 'Purpose' album.

Before she became famous as a solo artist, Jessie J wrote one of Miley Cyrus' biggest hits, "Party In The U.S.A,"  which she had originally written for herself with Dr. Luke and Claude Kelly, but ended up not recording it.

John Legend wrote the classic hit "American Boy" with will.i.am of The Black Eyed Peas.

Pop star Ke$ha wrote "Till The World Ends" for the Princess of Pop herself, Britney Spears.

"So Sick" singer Ne-Yo wrote Queen Bey's early classic "Irreplaceable," and reportedly regretted selling it afterwards.

Pharrell Williams is behind just about every iconic song you could think of, like Gwen Stefani's "Hollaback Girl" hit.

Like Pharrell, Sia has written songs for a number of big-name artists. Among them, she wrote “Pretty Hurts,” the opening song to Beyoncé’s 2013 self-titled album. 

Before he was a solo artist with an Album of the Year win under his belt, Bruno Mars wrote Ceelo Green's catchy hit "Forget You."

Julia Michaels wrote the bop that is "Bad Liar," Selena Gomez's 2017 single. She also wrote Gomez's "Hands To Myself."

Sean Foreman and Nathaniel Motte of 3OH!3 may be best-known for the band's 2009 party music, but the duo are also behind pop hits like Maroon 5's "Love Somebody" and Ariana Grande's "Tattooed Heart." Their writing credits include a wide-range of collaborations with artists from rapper Lil John to K-pop group BTS.
