Lil Nas X Launches Satanic Shoes Containing Human Blood

Dropping only days after rapper Lil Nas X's latest and controversial music video for "Montero (Call Me By Your Name)," the customized pair of Nike Air Max 97s Satan Shoes made in collaboration with clothing brand Mschf reportedly sold out in under a minute. The diabolical sneakers feature a pentagram charm, inverted cross, and a reference to Luke 10:18, a Bible verse about Satan's fall from heaven. The shoe's Air unit is filled with red ink mixed with human blood, which was apparently drawn from members of the Mschf team.

Lil Nas X took to Twitter to address the symbology behind the shoe and music video, saying that it's a response to the religious accusations against the gay community. "I spent my entire teenage years hating myself because of the shit y’all preached would happen to me because I was gay," he tweeted. "So i hope u are mad, stay mad, feel the same anger you teach us to have towards ourselves."

To no surprise, the Satan Shoes marketing stunt has sparked a great deal of controversy, leading Nike to release a statement on the issue: “We do not have a relationship with Little Nas X or Mschf. Nike did not design or release these shoes, and we do not endorse them,” as the company told The New York Times.

In response to the backlash against the satanic footwear, Lil Nas X posted a satirical apology video to YouTube and has strongly defended the shoe from social media criticism with humorous clap backs and remarks.

The Lil Nas X x MSCHF Satan Shoes retail for $1,018 on the Mschf app. Only 666 pairs were made.
