After a successful essay on the relationship that society has with her body, Emily Ratajkowski goes further and launches her very first book. The top model recently unveiled the cover of her book entitled My Body, and in the form of a collection of essays. She will cover topics like the perversion that reigns in the world of fashion and cinema, the fine line that delineates consent and abuse, the objectification of one's own body, as well as the fetishization of women. After the success of "Buying Myself Back," her personal essay published on The Cut in which she details the sexual assault and exploitation she's experienced in the modeling industry, My Body promises to push the envelope even further.

"My Body is a deeply personal exploration of feminism, sexuality and power, the treatment of women by men, and the rationalizations of women to accept this treatment," reads the book's description. " These essays chronicle moments from Ratajkowski’s life while investigating the culture’s fetishization of girls and female beauty, its obsession with and contempt for women’s sexuality, the perverse dynamics of the fashion and film industries, and the gray area between consent and abuse."

The theme chosen comes as no surprise considering Ratajkowski has spoken candidly in the past about being exploited and objectified in career.

Last September, Emrata lent her pen to The Cut for a fascinating essay that highlights the sexism hovering in the world of modeling. Ratajkowski looks back on some significant episodes in her life, including several moments in which she had no control over her own body, as well as her experience with the fashion photographer Jonathan Leder, whose exploitative behavior Ratajkowski has been trying to shed light on since 2016. In her essay, she claimed to have been sexually assaulted by the photographer during a photoshoot at his New York home in 2012, when she was 21. The poignant essay was a great success and became the magazine's most read story in 2020.

Ratajkowski, who is currently expecting her first child, says she is "thrilled" with the launch. The book is expected to arrive next fall, but is already available for pre-order on several online platforms.
