Kate Middleton Diagnosed with Cancer
In an unprecedentedly emotional video message, the Princess of Wales confirms she was diagnosed with cancer and undergoing chemotherapy.
It's been a troubling last couple of weeks for the Royal Family, in light of the news of King Charles' cancer diagnosis and Kate Middleton taking a step back from the spotlight to privately deal with her personal health issue. Fans grew increasingly concerned in the past days that perhaps there was more to Middleton's situation than previously shared.
This afternoon, the Princess of Wales took to Instagram to release an official statement about her recent absence. In the emotional video, recorded in Windsor, Middleton wore a simple striped sweater and jeans. Initially appearing with a slight smile, she grew visibly somber as she shared her diagnosis. Despite her conidition being thought to be non-cancerous, the Princess of Wales was diagnosed with cancer. Her abdominal surgery was otherwise successful, but upon her medical team's advisement, she is now in the "early stages" of preventative chemotherapy treatment. Middleton did not specify the type of cancer she was diagnosed with.
"This, of course, came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family," the Princess of Wales noted in the video release. "As you can imagine, this has taken time. It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment. But most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte, and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them and to reassure them that I'm going to be okay," she added.
In the statement, Middleton also assured fans that she has been prioritizing her recovery and mentioned that she was "getting stronger every day." She also acknowledged the support of her husband, Prince William, throughout her recovery journey.
Though Middleton remains positive, she did not give an exact timeline as to when she expects to be fully recovered. However, she expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support she has received and requested that her family be given some privacy during this challenging time. Middleton promised to return to her duties as soon as she's fully recovered.
"My work has always brought me a deep sense of joy, and I look forward to being back when I'm able. But for now, I must focus on making a full recovery," said Kate Middleton.
The Prince and Princess of Wales learned of the news on the day Prince William was scheduled for an appearance at King Constantine of Greece, his godfather's memorial service.
Given that King Charles III was also just recently diagnosed with an unspecified cancer, the news of Middleton's health is particularly unsettling for the Royal Family. Still, they remain optimistic.
The Princess of Wales concluded the video by expressing support for all cancer patients and survivors, encouraging them not to lose hope in their journey.
