In the days since Austin was turned into a consortium of film, politics, fashion, and music for its 32nd consecutive year, South by Southwest (SXSW) has seized millennial minds for yet another time. Townhall talks from political dark horses Bernie Sanders, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Pete Buttigieg were followed by film premieres. Jordan Peele premiered his new thriller, Us, looking for follow-up fame to his record-breaking Get Out. The world premiere of Seth Rogen and Charlize Theron’s new Jonathan Levine-directed political romcom brought the big crowds. If it is any indication of future success, Long Shot is sure to have an auspicious release.

Then came the music. Breakout star Wafia gave two powerful performances, cementing her place as electro-indie-pop darling. Famous for bringing artists together to perform in dive bars and on sidewalks, SXSW always provides ample musical discoveries. British singer-songwriter Yola delivered a memorable, room-filling moment with her post-modern folk-soul album, Walk Through Fire, on the Radio Day Stage.

Other noteworthy music discoveries for a refreshed playlist: The Comet is Coming, Jambinai, Bixiga 70, Black Midi, Sports Team.

The true icons revealed themselves at the Wrangler party at the trend-setting Austin Motel. The brand is famous for outfitting bohemians, outlaws, and rock & roll legends. With the re-emergence of their Icons Collection, Wrangler follows brands like Versace and Fendi, pulling from heritage looks. “The Icons Collection captures the essence of the stars that created an era of groundbreaking music, culture, and style and combines it with the hottest trends in denim today,” said Wrangler’s Vice President Jenni Broyles.

The young and the beautiful celebrated the vintage re-imagined denim among custom embroidery and a live slide guitar performance by Robert Randolph and the Family Band. Attendees were invited to on-the-spot laser customization by one of Wrangler’s patented new tools. Some opted for “Texas”, after all, what better way is there to remember the week?
