Bold Black Eyeliner Isn't Going Away Just Yet

As seen on recent Paris Fashion Week runways, a black and dramatic lid seems to be back and bolder than ever.

Having made a seemingly shy debut during Fashion Week in 2021, the black eyeliner look seems to be sticking around for yet another year as fashion Houses have opted for a dramatic lid for their Spring/Summer 2022 Haute Couture shows.

Chanel, for example, has truly mastered the approach to a bold look. The French luxury house decorated its models’ eyes with a dark and rich charcoal color sweeping over the entire lid. While some models donned a double-winged eyeliner similar to Natalie Portman’s dramatic Black Swan look, others wore a smudged messy look.

In addition to the models walking the runway, PFW attendee, Julia Fox, was seen wearing a dramatic eyeliner look on a few occasions. All three looks displayed a thick and long eyeliner wing that extended way beyond her brow bone, similar to the double-winged eyeliner showcased at Chanel.

The looks observed at PFW seem to reflect an ongoing shift in makeup trends and experimentation led by pop culture media. The TV show Euphoria definitely opened the gates to unleashing creative experimentation with daring eye makeup looks, and Season 2’s characters Maddy Perez and Jules Vaughn both have demonstrated different ways to confidently experiment with such a look on several occasions.

The new mini-series Pam & Tommy also promises to showcase some of Pamela Anderson’s (played by Lily James) iconic and classic bold eyeliner looks from the '90s.
