On a fateful August day in 1994, legendary Britpop band Oasis dropped its debut record, Definitely Maybe, which quickly became one of the most iconic albums of the era. While songs like "Wonderwall" and "Champagne Supernova" mark the band's most popular releases of all time, tracks like "Rock 'n' Roll Star," "Live Forever," "Supersonic," and "Married With Children" from the album have earned spots in the hearts of fervent Oasis fans and casual listeners alike.

Conceived in the Britpop haven that was Manchester—the city known for fostering talent like The Smiths, Joy Division, The Stone Roses, and more—in the '90s, Definitely Maybe marked the onset of the messy, grungy, yet undeniably alluring aesthetic that later cropped back up in the NYC indie sleaze scene of the early-to-mid aughts. Following its release, the album immediately sold millions of copies, launching it to number one on the UK Albums chart, and setting a currently undefeated record as the fastest-selling debut album in the UK of all time. A commercial success, yes, but Definitely Maybe also reignited interest in the British indie movement that had been slowly dwindling since popular releases from The Smiths and Joy Division in the '80s, causing a full-on cultural moment.

Clad in baggy jeans, Adidas jackets, button-up shirts, and oversized sweaters, Liam Gallagher, Paul Arthurs, Paul McGuigan, Tony McCarrell, and Noel Gallagher quickly became a household name in British rock and helped popularize a style still beloved today. Whether you wander the streets of New York City or Manchester, chances are you'll spot an It girl in the making sporting a look straight off of the stage of a '90s-era Oasis show—Liam Gallagher-esque easy-going swagger included, of course. Don't just take our word for it though—look towards the Adidas sneaker renaissance, the emergence of "grandpa core" as a trending style, and the re-emergence of indie sleaze styles, both British and American, as evidentiary support.

Without further ado, join L'OFFICIEL as we indulge in a little bit of '90s nostalgia and take a look at all of the iconic fashion moments from the early days of Oasis.
