Cowboycore According To All Your Favorite Celebrities
Western style has been taking over the runways and the streets alike, and all of our favorite celebs have jumped on the trend.
It's no secret that Western attire has been one of the trendiest looks of the season. With plenty of leather, fringe, and cowboy boots galore, luxury designers have fully embraced the country vibe, as seen in the release of several unique Western-inspired collections this year.
Pharrell's Louis Vuitton Men's Fall/Winter 2024 collection, Chanel Fall/Winter Couture 2023—where the house's classic tweed was paired with cowboy boots—and Chloé's boho-chic Spring/Summer 2024 collection—which marked an auspicious beginning to new creative director Chemena Kamali's time with the house—among others have paved the way for the resurgence of cowboycore in the fashion industry. And who could forget the release of Beyoncé's new country album, Cowboy Carter?
Of course, creative directors at the helm of some of the foremost luxury fashion houses in the world aren't doing all the heavy lifting. Musicians like Harry Styles and Miley Cyrus have favored Western-adjacent styles as of late, especially in the form of glitzy cowboy fringe. Although the trend has experienced a slow burn in terms of popularity among the general public, the announcement of Beyoncé's 2024 country album, Cowboy Carter, and supermodels like Bella Hadid and Kendall Jenner embracing their horse girl eras has catapulted the style into a full-on cultural moment.
In describing this style moment, cowboy and Western are two of the most popular terms used, but what do they actually entail? Cowboycore, as the Internet has dubbed it, often features fringe, leather and suede, denim, bolo ties, and of course, cowboy hats and cowboy boots.
From Beyoncé's full cowboy look to Ayo Edebiri's subtle cow-print shoes, take a look at the various ways that celebrities have embraced their inner cowboy and made the Western style trend their own.
Beyoncé
While the cowboy style had a definite moment in 2023, Beyoncé announced her new album, Cowboy Carter, at the 2024 Super Bowl, and subsequently stunned in ultra-chic takes on cowboycore. There's no denying that once Beyoncé endorses a style, there's no going back. Here, the "Texas Hold 'Em" singer donned a brown latex dress, a western belt, a snakeskin leather jacket, and of course, a matching cowboy hat.
Bella Hadid
A self-proclaimed horse girl, Bella Hadid has always had a love for cowboy culture, but this year, the supermodel took it to the next level. After going public with her relationship with Adan Banuelos, professional cowboy and horse trainer, Hadid has begun spending more time in her Fort Worth, Texas home and has been spotted frequently at rodeo events and equestrian competitions. In the past few months alone, the model has sported cowboy hats, western boots, and bootcut jeans on her Instagram page, marking her full-on approval of the style.
Kim Kardashian
Pharrell
Ahead of the unveiling of the Louis Vuitton Men's Fall/Winter 2024 collection, Pharrell, who currently serves as the house's creative director of menswear, sported a white cowboy hat paired with a graphic t-shirt in a cool, laid-back take on the cowboycore trend.
Emily Ratajkowski
While EmRata hasn't gone full cowboycore yet, the model has shown her love for cowboy boots time and time again. In her typical summer street-style looks, she dons a long, flowy skirt, and this outfit is no exception. In a 2023 appearance, Ratajkowski wore a silk paisley print midi skirt, a black halter neck tank top, and suede camel-colored cowboy boots. The model finished the look with a pair of silver hoops, oversized sunnies, and a pendant necklace.
Ayo Edebiri
Back in 2019, certified style icon Ayo Edebiri donned a pair of cow-print loafers, which she paired with a series of super casual outfits, proving to the public that you don't need to go all out to join in on all the cowboy fun.
Edie Campbell
Another model leading the horse girl renaissance is Edie Campbell, who has been loving the cowboycore moment, and has embraced her inner cowgirl more and more in recent months. Here, the British model sported a leather jacket, complete with hypnotizing metallic fringe detailing, black jeans, and a lowrise white top, perfectly embodying the ultra-suave cowboys of yore.
Harry Styles
Ahead of the cowboycore push that emerged towards the end of 2023, Harry Styles combined two major trends of the year in one flashy look. The "As It Was" singer performed at the 2023 Grammy Awards in this metallic fringed jumpsuit, putting his own fresh spin on the cowboycore style.
Miley Cyrus
In this bright blue look, Miley Cyrus opted for a bedazzled denim vest and a teal wide-brim cowboy hat—complete with more rhinestones, of course. The singer accompanied her glamorous Western-style outfit with sparkly cerulean eyeshadow and super straight blonde locks.
Gigi Hadid
Gigi Hadid has been a cowboycore advocate since the beginning. In a 2018 photoshoot, Hadid modeled a pinstripe vest and skirt layered over a patterned western-style button-down. To complete the cowboycore look, the model wore a turquoise necklace and alligator leather boots.
Chappell Roan
Taking a cue from other pop stars who have gone country, Chappell Roan opted for this glitzy, vibrant take on the cowboycore trend. In a bubblegum pink and electric blue top, the "Red Wine Supernova" singer opted for the less-is-more philosophy, rocking a sparkly fringed skirt and a sequin-laden pink cowboy hat.
Seonghwa
Seonghwa, vocalist in K-Pop group ATEEZ, sported this subtle, but effortlessly cool cowboycore look as part of the group's cowboy concept shoot, featuring dark double-denim and a western-style leather belt.
