Pop punk's resurgence in recent years has been celebrated by a bevy of young artists. Among those ranks is now Willow Smith (or just Willow, as she is known professionally) who recently released her new song "Transparent Soul" with former Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker. Smith's return to music comes more than a year after putting out her collaborative album The Anxiety with Tyler Cole.

In the music video, Smith appears in all black, rocking some signature punk styles with Gen-Z flair: wide-legged cargo pants, a cutout crop top, and chained accessories with spiked hardware.

The 20-year-old singer told Rolling Stone that the song is inspired by Hindu spiritual guide and author Radhanath Swami's quote: “It is said that a saintly person is so pure that he or she acts like a spotless mirror. When we come in the presence of such a mirror-like soul, we can see both the beauty and ugliness of our inner life.”

When speaking of the song, Smith explained, “I read that quote, and it really spoke to me." She continued, “And that’s kind of how the idea of this song came to be.”
