Zendaya Explains Why She Won't Return to Music
In a recent interview with her Spider-Man co-star, Andrew Garfield, Zendaya explains why she won't step into the studio again.
Anyone who sees Zendaya shining in big Hollywood productions, like Euphoria and Spider-Man, does not realize that music is another one of her great talents—but don't expect to see the star on stage to sing in the near future. For Zendaya, a career in the music industry didn't seem appealing at all, and now she explains why.
In an interview with Andrew Garfield for Variety magazine, Zendaya states that there is a level of anonymity that tours don't allow. “I was talking to Sam [Levinson, Euphoria director] about it earlier. I was like, I don't know if I could be a pop star. It's because as an actress, there's a level of anonymity that I get to have, which I really enjoy."
“And I can sort my stuff, whatever it is, through a character, and nobody needs to know about it. Whereas in other ways and other means, it's all you all the time. I like the idea that someone else, namely Rue, can take on these things. I walked away from music a long time ago, for various reasons."
When Garfield asked if “limits” could be a reason for her uncertainty about returning to the recording studio full-time, Zendaya said, “Yes, limits. Learning what it is to me.” It is worth remembering that her career began at Disney Channel. She even released a debut album in 2013.
