For soon-to-be inaugurated President Joe Biden to make his move to the White House, the United States government will spend over $510,000 on a rigorous cleaning of the historic residence.

Since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, the site has experienced three outbreaks of COVID-19 under President Trump's administration. Trump left the White House earlier this morning and won't be attending the inauguration ceremony. Even though it is customary for the White house to be cleaned between administrations, it has never been as thorough and expensive as this time. Contracts include $127,249 “Inaugural cleaning,” $29,523 for curtain cleaning, and $44,038 for carpet cleaning.

The cleaning and maintenance of the building takes place every six hours, and will happen during the inauguration ceremony. It's no small task as the White House has six floors, 132 rooms, 35 bathrooms, 412 doors, and 28 fireplaces.
