Meghan Markle Abandons Plans For UK Citizenship
Just over a year ago, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced that they would step down from senior positions in British royalty. Since then, we have seen that a lot has changed in their lives and around the world. In addition to the million-dollar contracts and the landmark in history, something else has become clear: the loss of the Duchess' interest in becoming an English citizen.
According to The Telegraph, after moving to California, Markle abandoned plans to become a citizen of the United Kingdom. Which is understandable, since after leaving England, the couple achieved the financial independence they sought by announcing their departure from royalty. Another essential point to know is that in order to obtain English citizenship as a spouse she would have to have resided for three years in the United Kingdom.
Apparently the couple is satisfied with their choice. In April 2020, a source reported to US Weekly that "Meghan feels more at home and is really starting to feel herself again."
Meanwhile, People sources reported that "despite everything that happened in 2020, they don't regret their move to the United States. They love being able to focus on projects and causes that are important to them."
