8 Celebrity Scandals You Forgot About
From Justin Bieber *possibly* fathering a child to the Olivia Rodrigo and Sabrina Carpenter drama, here are a few celebrity scandals that might have slipped your mind.
With celebrities come paparazzi, red carpet appearances, designer fashion, and of course, scandals. While every year brings a new fair share of jaw-dropping moments, like Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars or Prince Harry and Meghan Markle leaving the Royal Family, some scandals can easily fall under the radar. Let’s take a look back at seven scandals that might have you screaming, “Oh my gosh, that actually happened?”
On Monday, James Corden received backlash for his alleged rude behavior towards Balthazar staff, a popular restaurant in New York City. Keith McNally, owner of the restaurant, called out the talk show host for the way he treated staff during brunch with his wife, who requested an egg yolk omelette with gruyère cheese and salad. When Corden received the dish, he pointed to the omelette and told the waitress, “there was a little bit of egg white mixed with the egg yolk.” In an exchange between Corden and the server, Corden began to yell, "You can't do your job! You can't do your job! Maybe I should go into the kitchen and cook the omelette myself!" Later, Corden called the restaurant to issue an apology to the staff and to McNally, and as of today, the ban has been lifted.
Back in 2011, a 20-year-old woman, Mariah Yeater, claimed that a then-17-year-old Justin Bieber was the father of her new baby, according to The Washington Post. The woman alleged that the two met up backstage after a concert at the Staples Center. The suit was later dropped, but that didn’t stop Bieber from dropping a song, “Maria,” about the situation in 2012, including phrases like “Maria, why you wanna do me like that? That ain’t my baby, no, that ain’t my girl.”
Actress Samantha Ware called out Lea Michele in 2020 for treating her terribly on the set of Glee, per Insider. Ware tweeted at Michele after Michele had tweeted about the Black Lives Matter movement. Ware fired back, “LMAO REMEMBER WHEN YOU MADE MY FIRST TELEVISION GIG A LIVING HELL?!?! CAUSE ILL NEVER FORGET.” This prompted a slew of other celebrities, including Michele's Glee co-star Heather Morris, to speak out as well. Michele, pregnant at the time, issued an apology on Instagram.
Back in March 2020 during the early stages of the pandemic, Vanessa Hudgens went live on Instagram and addressed the virus. “It’s a virus, I get it. I respect it," she explained, “But at the same time, like, even if everybody gets it -- like, yeah, people are gonna die. Which is terrible. But, like, inevitable? I don’t know, maybe I shouldn’t be doing this right now." She later issued an apology for her “insensitive” comments.
After Olivia Rodrigo released the hit “Driver’s License,” fans soon began to speculate who her love interest and “that blonde girl who always made me doubt” were references to. Previously, Rodrigo was linked to her High School Musical: The Musical: The Series co-star Joshua Bassett. And when Sabrina Carpenter, who had recently fueled romance rumors with Bassett, released “Skin,” with the lyrics, “Maybe you didn't mean it, maybe blonde was the only rhyme,” fans seemed to take this as confirmation. However, Carpenter and Rodrigo were recently spotted talking at the 2022 Met Gala.
It can be hard to keep up with these two, considering their on-and-off relationship. But at the end of 2021, TMZ reported that Gigi Hadid’s mother, Yolanda, and Zayn Malik got into a fight that resulted in a physical altercation between the two in which Malik "struck" Yolanda. Malik denied the claims, but he and the model are no longer together.
A Halloween costume gone WRONG. Back in 2013, during the height of Orange Is the New Black's popularity, Julianne Hough dressed up in an orange jumpsuit and sported dark face makeup, in an effort to portray one of the show’s characters. She later addressed the controversy on Twitter. “I am a huge fan of the show Orange Is the New Black, actress Uzo Aduba, and the character she has created. It certainly was never my intention to be disrespectful or demeaning to anyone in any way. I realize my costume hurt and offended people and I truly apologize,” she tweeted.
In 2008, Miley Cyrus posed for Vanity Fair, in an outfit, or lack thereof, that caused quite a stir, per Reuters. Cyrus held a satin sheet over her body with her back exposed, appearing to be nude underneath, in the photo shot by well-known photographer Annie Leibovitz. At the time, Cyrus said she felt "embarassed" by the photos, per Reuters. But ten years later, in 2018, Cyrus tweeted a photo of a news headline that read, "Miley's shame," accompanied by the words, "IM NOT SORRY" and "F*** YOU #10yearsago."
