Ask and you shall receive. <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/avril-lavigne-style-evolution-pop-punk-2000s-resurgence" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Avril Lavigne</a> is bringing back her hit single "Sk8er Boi" in a way you&rsquo;ve never seen before. With the 20th anniversary of the song just around the corner, the singer has decided to celebrate the song's cultural impact through film.&nbsp;
In an interview with the iHeartRadio podcast She is the Voice, Lavigne gushed about the popularity and significance of the song to the general public. &ldquo;Recently, with it being almost the 20th anniversary, a lot of people have been asking me to play this song on some TV shows, so it keeps getting brought back up and people will always reference it to me,&rdquo; says Lavigne. &ldquo;And so, I&rsquo;m actually going to turn this song into a film and take it to the next level.&rdquo;

The singer then went on to delve deeper into her thought process behind the project. &ldquo;You know what it was like in high school, you have all the different groups and cliques, and there&rsquo;s like skaters, preps, jocks,&rdquo; Lavigne continues. &ldquo;It&rsquo;s kind of like a missed opportunity at love. The skater boy is in love with the preppy girl, but like she&rsquo;s too cool for him. But then five years from now she&rsquo;s feeding the baby and she&rsquo;s all alone and she wishes she would have followed her heart and not tried to live up to society&rsquo;s expectations.&rdquo;&nbsp;
And we have no doubt that this story arc will do well as a film. After all, the tune did win her multiple awards and even got her nominated for a Grammy back in 2003. Not to mention, it's the same trope of most successful <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/valentines-day-rom-com-movies-to-watch" target="_blank" rel="noopener">romantic comedies</a>. Think Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles&rsquo; 10 Things I Hate About You, Shane West and Mandy Moore&rsquo;s A Walk to Remember, and more. Lavigne&rsquo;s "Sk8er Boi" protagonists are sure to join the never-ending list of popular east-meets-west couples already held dear to us in film, with a more realistic ending.&nbsp;

Although Lavigne did not particularly disclose any additional details about the upcoming movie, it&rsquo;s safe to assume that the project will not be in the works until her upcoming Bite Me Tour ends in March next year.&nbsp;
